With everyone always blathering on about "Economic Collapse...This year for sure...No, really this time... 🙄 ..", Im rather reluctant to make warnings or predictions.
BUT...don't you hate people that always say "But" not realising it discredits what they just said. Im "That Guy" at the moment. I don't fly off the handle at every prediction...But...I think 2008...um...may be happening again...And I would be a rather bad C5 if didn't say anything at all.
Ive been humming and hawing about this for a week. Some other people I respect have been saying the same thing and quoting a few of the same sources. Oh well. Here is me just giving a heads up.

OK. Let me clear something up incase I start a panic. I don't mean, its happening right friggin now. I mean, the signs have been there for about a week

...Absolutely nothing. Budupda.
Perhaps we need to clear up what an economic collapse is. Its not Zombies and Road Warriors, "A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear" . It means...you lose your job...or take a substantial pay cut. Businesses close because people don't have much disposable income to purchase...stuff, your wife divorces you because somehow its your fault 🙄 , etc.
Its just a good time to look at how you are positioned. Can you survive the job loss. CANADA. We sell Commodities. That's pretty much all we got.....so, a commodities crash is pretty serious to Canada. Its a sign that people stopped buying...stuff. Stuff made with commodities.
It was actually why I decided to post this. CBC radio was already on this. Only about two days behind the alternative news which is pretty good. For most mainstream news, its usually a month latter, 6 months or a couple years behind. This time CBC called it. They recognised that a commodities crash was sort of a real problem to Canadians. That confirmed to me that it wasn't just some flakes out on the fringe...and why I put out the heads up alert lite.

let me clear one more thing up. Its not, "Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. Let the apocalypse begin. Bang. And we are off." It means the implications play out over the next handful of months.
Personally, I didn't realise the significance of 2008 until a couple years after. After my job had slowed way down. After I couldn't find another job. Sooo, I had predicted that a financial crash was going to happen many years before it did, yet, I didn't recognise that my prediction had come true...until a couple years later. I just hadn't pulled together the significance of the events. When I did...that's when we sold the house and moved to the farm, mentally preparing for round two...

I would say more than a week....on the micro level (Canada) the turn was the third quarter of 2014... ofcourse downward indicators by themselves don't mean much as change is normal...but the magnitude and breadth of the trajectory was rather clear by the 4th quarter of 2014 and certainly by 1st quarter of 2015.... http://www.statcan.gc.ca/daily-quotidien/150605/cg-b001-eng.htm

After the election I am sure the recession word will be used.....But no worries...no mater how bumpy the ride we are all still living better than any King could have ever dreamed of

I'm wondering if we won't hear the "R" word DURING the campaigning, as well...
Thanks, Peppercorn, for chiming in. Yes. The subject is not going away.
There was a very early post I did on what a Slow Crash looks like as opposed to a Fast Crash. This got me enemies quickly because it took away the sexy factor of survivalism. To this day, our group will randomly break into a round of "Macho, Macho Man" by The Village People every time we are acting all old school.

Hey grandma. I ow you a BIGGGG apology. After I got caught up in my own thing.....and said we would meet up again....then time made it awkward...Then...Bad C5, no biscuit. Either way. My apology. (Don't worry, other readers. Nothing Tawdry. LOL)
Ya. I don't want to be political on the board....BUT...I think that is why they pulled the early election. A combination of taking advantage of fear...and not being seen as responsible once it really kicks in.
Its all, shuffling deck chairs on the titanic.
Politics Kills Prepping. Just a reminder.

The financial/business expert interviewed on the cbc radio tonight was suggesting that the long term forecast for the Canadian dollar would be in the low 60 cents... because of a crash in demand for commodities.
I really hope they're wrong because I think most of us would fair far better if it was zombies or pandemic flu. It is much harder to fight the loss of your job!
Also,
This should have been in the general discussion area so that the Navigationally Challenged can find it. It is a good discussion for everyone imho.

No chance of that..
on the macro scale and that pretty much means China now (at least for material production) the growth rate in electrical consumption is at a 30 year low, its still up year over year but just barely...kind of suggests to me that the factories are lit and heated but they musnt be running at capacity....not even close...
Not much worries me ... I have seen ups and downs...morgages at 22%, double digit unemployment. I know how to roll with it...I will worry when I cant get antibiotics.....or the dentist says " look the painkillers are harder to get and really going up in price think we can pull this one with a litte clove oil?" Those would be pretty bad indicators to me...its all a mater of perspective
have home, have heat, have food, have water, have power, have health and can keep it, then all is well.Work is optional and over ratted anyway..
Oh Sugar...lets not forget sugar.....better go stock up...off to Costco I go

I dont think there is an impending collapse anytime soon. Been hearing doomsday reports for years and historically these warnings come and go with every generation...
But economic turmoil...depressions and recessions are a reality...and arguably a necessity to try and "right the ship" back into reality....
An oldie but a goodie. Only change is some new Premiers and spending has gotten WORSE:
http://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/the-deadbeat-bunch-2/
We spend spend spend.......until we reach a position where our Debt to GDP actually harms the economy and the painful cuts have to begin. Greece learned there lesson the hard way and it will be decades before they will recover from there mismanagement.
Quebec, Ontario....continued drops in credit ratings as they refuse to balance the books. Ontario chose the "comfortable" choice last election and kept the spend crazy party in power. Why not? We dont see an immediate effect day to day...just a growing problem behind the scenes that no one likes to talk about... No one wants to say it...but eventually someone will have to come in and make massive painful cuts before the province bankrupts itself...just like after the Bob Raes government of the 80's Mike Harris had to make massive reforms and balance the provinces books. We are putting off the inevitable....instead of making the proper choices now to limit the sting...we will continue to spend until the government credit cards are maxed out...and whomever is in power has no choice but to start wielding the axe..
The Federal Gov't is making cuts at a slow rate so as not to shock the system...but is it enough? Tough to sell people on Austerity when the cozy thing to do it just spend more to keep everyone happy...
