Hi!
One of my interests is CB radio. It is short wave so under good DX conditions especially in summer there is communication over thousands of kilometers.
My location is in Germany, so sometimes I have DX connection with south Germany, more times with UK or Italy and most times with Poland and Russia. But I never heard from the Americas. Is CB not familiar there anymore or is it just too far?
Can CBers in the Americas sometimes receive Europe?
Regards,Coalie.

Hello Cialie,

There are "hammies" here in Nova Scotia. The class to learn how and to get your licence to be a CB operator is on Thursday nights. As for the distances that can be reached I do not know, but if you can reach thousands of kilometers then I would make a guess that we can reach the West coast of Europe and then some. The first messages sent "through the air, across the ocean, for the first time ever" from Newfoundland to Europe was in 1901. So I'm thinking we can do a little better now.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
Take care.

In NS is there a license required for CB radio?
How about other CB- bands? Family radio service for example.(FRS, 70cm.)
Coalie.

There are 3 services in Canada which do not require a license, they are:
1 - CB
2 - FRS
3 - GMRS

there are some very low power restrictions though.
