Does anyone sell DATREX bars in Halifax?

The closest people that I know of with Datrex bars are the shelf reliance people in Sussex NB.
I'm surprised there aren't any survival places, or prep places in and around Halifax. Mountain Equipment has some individual course Mountain House packets, sold individually, but no #10 cans or bulk buying the last time I was there.
Do you have a Cabelas out there? They sell the Mainstay survival rations. I bought both the Datrex and Mainstay recently, did a taste test and the Mainstay were much better.
COSTCO is a good place to get Mountain House, Shelf Reliance and MRE foods. The cost of delivery is included in the price and delivery is fast and dependable. There is a Costco in Halifax. As for Datrex Bars there are a number of suppliers in Ontario.
You want to contact Spartan Marine in Burnside. I prefer the Seven Oceans for a more wheat based product, the SOS ones are more like blocks of sugar and much harder. Last cost was $4.95 for either.
Contact me and we'll do a taste test.
Why did I join Canadian Preppers Network?
Well I was going to join the UK Network but those bloody Brits don't know how to speak proper English! 😉
Been away from boards, and just checking back in. A bunch of good ideas. MEC doesn't have any datrex or equivalents, but you're right they do have some mountian house. Costco has mountain house and MREs Mailorder only, nothing in store that I've seen. I checked the Binnacle website (nothing) but never even thought of Spartan, good idea I'll give them a try.

MEC is bloody expensive. I'm gluten free, so finding dehydrated food is a challenge. I'm going to wait until I start homesteading to build up my food supply. I might supplement it with Thrive cans and mylar bags in buckets for grains/rice, etc.

Here is a link to a very good video I watched last summer from MAINEPREPPER all about Datrex Bars. A very poor choice for anything more than 'just surviving'.

I was thinking as I re-read this thread that you might want to look up the folks who make the Soldier Fuel Bars. Canadian, supply both Canadian and US Military's with the Soldier Fuel Bars. Might this be what your looking for?
Thanks HWHarry, you are probably right. I was just looking for something to keep in the vehicles emergency bags, and possibly throw 1-2 into each BOB for weight savings.
WildenessReturn, I'll need to google them, but I suspect they are very similar.
Thanks for all the ideas!

WildernessReturn is on to something there. I was doing some research into off the shelf energy bars and the 'Soldier Fuel ' bars seem to be the best on the market. I was reading in a couple army forums that a lot of guys in Afghanistan are packing only these and water on 2 and 3 day missions. You can get them at Costco for $29 for 15 bars.
I've been buying the Soldier Bars from Costco for over 5 years. IMHO, these are one of the better tasting and better all round bars out there...keep them in my bike in case a snack is required and in all BOB, in truck, ATV, etc...probably get about 4-5 cases per year...My 9 year old son even enjoys them occassionally.
Cheers

Good to hear that. Which Costco do you get them at ? Did I have the price right ? $29 for 15 ?
Hey HWH, I buy them online, it's free shipping and I do not think they carry them in store...they usually arrive in like 3-4 days at most. As well, on line you can pay with any credit card (I collect points on mine) but in store it is Amex only.
Here's the link, costco online is probably one of the best... http://www.costco.ca/CatalogSearch?storeId=10302&catalogId=11201&langId=-24&keyword=soldier+bar ...And yes, price and quantity are bang on, $29 for 15.
Enjoy
