Ive been doing some dehydrating of vegies over the wood stove. Its producing heat anyhow so lets put it to use for a few extra things. Simply place chopped up vegies on a window screen and place on rock or bricks 4 to 12 inches above the stove. You will notice a few other helpful additions to our stove. Metal shelfs on the sides gives me a larger working surface, and gives more surface for storing rocks to ad as a heat sink or to be moved around the house as mobile heat. Hot rocks go in the bed to heat it and my feet are resting on one at the moment. You will also notice the canning pot filled with water. This goes into the bath tub at night to cut down on hot water costs. Yesterday, it was also slow cooking squashes for chicken food wile dehydrating some carrots that didn't have much longer to live. Today we are doing some onions. at some point I will build a multi tray system and hanging racks for drying clothes. As I said, the stove is burning through out the winter any how. It should be multi tasking.
I have a Tactical Harness and I have a Tool Belt. The Tool Belt is more Useful.
Nice to see others doing that. 🙂
C5 - I built frames out of 1" x 1/2" then stapled screening on it. That way you can stack them one upon the other. I use tin cans under them as 'legs'.
Works out great 'cause you get more room to dehy. as well as use the stove top for other things.
You can also put up a small line and hang herbs and such on it by the stove.
I dry mullein that way.
I bought those, what I think are meant for drying clothing, that you can flip over and fold up. They come with tiny clothes pegs on them. Hang that on the line and fill it up. Dries a lot of stuff cheaply and fast.
I got mine at garage sales and $ stores.
A sense of humor is absolutely essential to survival.
If you want you can also use the sides of a baby crib just hang them and you can hang your clothes on them to dry.
