I Got Caught Cheating...on IPN, that is.

A few people from here have caught me over at Permies.com. I've been expanding my survival portfolio. There s a HUGE knowledge base there. I would like to give an example. This post is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen anywhere. (read the whole progression) When I read the start post, I said, " Good luck. That will never work. Let me tell you why..." As I read further, my jaw dropped. Its only one example. http://www.permies.com/t/38201/ponds/Progress-Gleying-Pond-Pigs .

I'm not the only one that caught this bug. The well respected prepper, Goat Hollow, for APN and Youtube put this out last week...and it sort of motivated me to make this post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCT0W112oW4 -Self Sufficiency "kicked up a few notches"

A lot of permaculture techniques have already filtered into the prepper world. Rocket stoves, Tiny houses, etc. As well, Permies has a large prepper contingent there already. One moderator I chatted with considered Permaculturists as "Deep Preppers".

I enjoy just going to the Recent Topics board http://www.permies.com/forums/recentTopics/list and taking in the mass of knowledge, without looking for anything in particular. If you decide to visit there, just a warning...They are a bit sensitive. lol. No conflict allowed. Zero insults. Those that know me probably know how difficult this is for me. Tis the cost learning, fellow duchebags. 🙄

Its the busy season as The race begins to get everything done before the snow falls so I am too beat to continue posting but I will come back to this to tell you folks why I chose to head in this direction. Hint. It all started with one of my earlier posts right here on IPN and trying to figure out how to prep for a Slow Crash

Here is another fine example. http://www.permies.com/t/50021/chickens/Finally-mobile-chicken-coop-person

My first attempt at a mobile coop...was ridiculously un mobile. Its now in place for good. Seeing this has me considering just using the old one fore their winter home and building them a summer camp

Yay! Rainy miserable weather. I now have an excuse to take a break, drink some beer and get caught up on typing. My progression to permaculture.

Like many well rounded preppers, I have drawn from any source that would help me. I have a new joke on,"whats the difference between a survivalist and a prepper?"
-Old survivalists have a collections of Soldier Of Fortune magazines from the late 70, early 80s. Old preppers have a collection of Mother Earth News magazine from the late 60s, early 70s.

Yah. Its not that funny...but a family member just sent me some collector issues of Mother Earth news. Im not even looking at them till the winter.

So we have had some books on permaculture in the collection, waiting to be used apon need. It was just one tool in the tool shed.

But my focus started to change after writing a post on "The Slow Crash" as opposed to a fast crash. http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2622&hilit=Slow+Crash

I wrote, " I think it was just Hearing the title " THE SLOW CRASH" that triggered something in the lizard part of the brain. The "Ah Ha" moment. The part that says, "This is what I have really been seeing since child hood. This is what I am watching happen and this is more of what I should expect to see more of as things get worse." A Red Pill moment. I suppose its also why I can say, "I don't feel comfortable with the majority of Prepper THEORY and the fairy tales that political and religious idealogs have spun like snake oil salesmen to Steal the prepper movement for themselves. All of the Cold War era survival advice and Backwoods Boyscout Batmen, doesn't really apply anymore. In fact, It might be the complete opposite and guarantee to destroy your life."
Though the slow crash may seem less dramatic, Its effects are far more devastating. More, regional collapses and partial recoveries, ad nauseum. Less a mass die off. More, the little die offs don't really affect the locus swarm that strip everything.
With this, ALL prepping theory needs to be re evaluated. Yes, Argentina and Russia collapsed. They also REMANE. When the US "Collapses" I suspect it will also remain...inspite of local Bosnia like events or regional right wing Rwanda's. You will still have to go to your job in the morning. Now more than ever...for a tenth of the wage or less. You still go to jail if you shoot someone. The jails are just alot worse and your family may have to pay for your food wile there. If this is so, perhaps we need change the idea of preparing for COLLAPSE and start the more difficult process of preparing for DECLINE!

The truth is...I don't have a fucking clue what that really looks like. The best I am coming up with is almost Permaculture solutions. Direct action Sustainability and localised...hum...Everything. But far less Hippified and almost Medieval in nature and group....and siege survivability. That's the best I can think up and its woefully inadequate. I've been preparing for Collapse for 35 years since I was 10 and realised the numbers were unsustainable. I'm not sure what preparing for Decline looks like. What bases have I been missing. Its like starting all of my preps from the ground up."

I didn't realise it at the time but that was my direction change moment.

One last After Thought. There is a C5 Rule of Survival I don't think I have written down anywhere. I think it may have been the first before I even thought of C5 Rules, back when I posted on cargo bikes....

C5 Rule of Survival- Hippies had all the right answers...For all the wrong reasons.

It isn't cheating if you have permission...
IPN prefers to have an "open relationship" with it's members.
Frolic away!
...and if you HAVE to cheat, well I can't think of anyone better to do it with than Paul Wheaton!
