Hi everyone!

I recently regained ownership of my family farm, and while I'm primarily looking to rebuild it into a business, I'm also looking to establish contact with like-minded people interested in becoming part of a self-reliant community. The property is ideal for a group of 10 to 15 people (maybe more) to live off the grid, should the global monetary system collapse (which we all know is a mathematical certainty!) I'm located in the Annapolis Valley

The farm was empty for numerous years but still has all it's infrastructure in tact. Roughly 80 acres of arable land along with ~150 acres of woodland have a large farm house, multiple barns, a greenhouse, a slaughterhouse, a carpentry shop, and numerous other structures.

I thought I would say hi and show my support. Im the other poster trying to start a group north of you. Fantastic farm you have by the way. Im envious of your infrastructure. We are mainly feild , wilderness and buffer zone here. I just wanted to send my encouragement as I know how hard trying to get people involved is, especialy in Nova Scotia. There does not seem to be a large group of people that get that prepping community is the single greatest prep or that survival is unlikely without it. Its like trying to herd cats that have decided to hang out on the road because it is warm and comfy. 90% of them think a gun and a bugout bag is all they realy need. Dont give up.

I have a Tactical Harness and I have a Tool Belt. The Tool Belt is more Useful.

Hi cernunnos5,

Thanks for your kind words. I'm indeed blessed to have this place and glad I never gave up in my fight to keep it. There certainly is no shortage of infrastructure - my father loved to build and he was damn good at it. I agree that there is much ignorance out there about where the world is headed within the next few years, but what can you do? As long as people care more about cheering on their favorite political freak and the latest Hollywood gossip the prepping community will remain a fringe minority. I'm certain there will be a mass awakening eventually - whether it will be too late or not remains to be seen. Good luck with your operation as well. Let's keep in touch!

Hey aequanimus,

I'll be making an initial supply trip to Halifax this month. Let's try to line up a meeting then. Anyone else who's looking to bounce some ideas and thoughts off each other is welcome too. Email me at Kuss_2000 at h o t mail .com

I did some brainstorming and thought I'd share some of the skills, experience, and characteristics of what I think any a suitable team member here would have:

gardeners/farmers
doctors/nurses/homeopaths/herbalist
handymen/tradesmen of all types
homemakers
butchers/meatcutters
mechanics
hunting/fishing/weapons/defense knowledge
business/bartering etc.

Having some type of mobile housing like an RV (although boarding/renting in the farmhouse may be possible) and having your own emergency food supply would help as well.

Hey Sundasher, How goes the battle? Did you find any help? Was just curious how you were progressing.

The bureaucracy to finalize my ownership here is finally wrapping up. It's too late into the season to be getting much livestock but there's enough repair/reno/cleaning to keep me busy for a while anyway.

There's been some interest from people to talk more and that's a good start. I wasn't expecting to easily find people with the above mentioned skills... that probably won't happen until more people realize the benefit of having a place to retreat to.

Sundasher, it looks like you've got yourself a great plot of land there and good aspirations for it too! I'm trying to send you a PM about it but can't seem to. I'll try again though (it may be because I don't have enough forum posts under my belt yet).

Wanted to add my encouragement for the project you have undertaken.
I am attempting to do a similar thing myself on the South Shore and count myself fortunate that I have finally begun to meet like-minded people. Although I am committed to my area, I am a homeopath and would be interested in participating in your group, albeit from a distance. As none of us really know the specifics of what is ahead for us all, perhaps an hours drive or so will not be completely out of the question.
