Great to see more interest building here! I'm open to any and all input as far as how to best set up a survival community. So far it's my understanding that most communities of this nature involve a group of people buying a plot of land and then subdividing it amongst themselves so everyone owns their own piece within a community. This setup is not very applicable to my property. Rather I envision arrangements based on contracts with durations anywhere from 3 to 12 months. So for example if you and I were in agreement on contract details, in order to live here you would be expected to work, offer your specific skillset, financially contribute, and/or benefit our community in some other manner. How much of these obligations you would have to meet would depend on your housing and living requirements. Basically, the more you take from the community, the more you would be expected to give... again this is me brainstorming, and I'm open to any and all feedback.

As a quick sidenote, is anyone as overwhelmed as me when browsing the endless online selection of long term food storage? If you're looking for the most "bang for your buck" calculate the callories per dollar you're getting... the more calories per dollar, the better the deal. Calories is what matters in a survival situation, not the fancy label on the can! Personally I also stay away from food that's chemically laced with long difficult-to-pronounce ingredient lists.

Hi Sundasher and Cernnunos5, we may be neighbours. I'm in Wolfville. PM me if you're interested in chatting further or meeting up!

Just to clarify, I'm not of "strong Christian faith". Apparently this is a requirement for some preppers in order to establish contact. Hopefully this note will save both of us the time and disappointment.

Hi Melinder, I will PM you... I never received notification that you had posted here.

Chickens (layers and broilers) arriving this spring!

Hi Sundasher,
Just joined this group a few days ago, after having started prepping a few years ago. Your property is beautiful and very well set up, though much larger than the property my family and I have been developing, it's very much similar to our layout. I was just wondering how your search for skilled community members was going. I'm also interested in how your live stock and gardening are going, what you've been raising and growing, and your preservation methods for them. I hope things are going well and hope to hear from you soon.

Hi, i am from Nova Scotia but don't currently live there. I am a prepper and have the skills to survive in the wild. I am visiting my parents (who are also preppers) in July and would like to meet up with a group in Nova Scotia. Please let me know if you know of any local groups?

May I ask, what is the elevation of your property?

I would be interested in joining your group.
I am currently living in the valley. I have recently moved to Nova Scotia from Ontario. I would very much love to talk with you or meet up sometime.

I am beginning to think it is time to try an arrange a monthly or quarterly meeting of minds. There are a healthy mix of survival, disaster planning, and general back to the landers in this province that even a small yearly garden party or camp out would be worth arranging so that people can socialize and maybe even compare notes.

Sure, some will have differences of opinion on the whole Preparedness/Transition moment. But better to know people who are like minded and understand each others general sentiment, then to rely on neighbours who are completely clueless.

The idea that existing in total isolation is going to somehow guarantee survival in a disaster is foolish. The community spirit that could be built around a general purpose Preparedness movement in this province has a lot of widespread value for future years. We all know major social change and upheaval is coming. Who would you rather bet on trusting? Someone who also sees the future reality for what it is or someone on your street who thinks any kind of preparedness training or knowledge is crazy?

A monthly and or quarterly meeting would be good so everyone could meet each other, and a camp out would also be good for people and show, talk and relax over a couple of days

I know this is an older thread, but I'm wondering how you did with looking for others, and how the MAG was progressing....
