Hey people,

Looking for some advice,

My wife and I are becoming more serious about moving out of Ontario and relocating, at the moment it's really a toss up between Nova Scotia and PEI.

I have never actually visited either province and my wife has only been to Charlottetown and Halifax with her mother on some package cruise ship tour. I want to visit both provinces, but I know I can't do both in one year, just not enough time off work, so I'm looking for some insight as to where to focus.

I'd like to get between 50-100 acres, maybe more, maybe less. I doubt I need more than 10 acres cleared and workable. We will be liquidating all our assets here in Ontario to make a fairly respectable downpayment and of course, the goal is to become more self sufficient and prepare as best we can for the future.

Would you guys suggest that one province is better for our prepper lifestyle than another?

Thanks in advance.

Go north shore Nova Scotia. Right between Halifax and Charlottown. We have a diverse community. Loads of back to the landers. Cheap land. Organized Prepper Network.

As is the case with most questions, the answer I most often give is, "It depends". It depends on how you earn your living, what you want most in your new home, etc. I have spent much more time in Nova Scotia than in PEI. Both are beautiful in the summer and swing seasons. Both have four seasons (which is different than here in Alberta where spring and autumn are hours long). I am personally building in Nova Scotia because that is where my wife's "people" come from. I have observed that land is reasonably priced and readily available. The people that I have met have been friendly and I have seen real community which is open to "people from away". While I still have a good fifteen years ahead of me before I'm ready to retire, I have heard enough about NS winters that I will keep my options open for Snow birding. I don't put much stock into "world wide SHTF" so wouldn't rule out an island just in case.

Needs must when the devil drives.

I agree with reluctantprepper on this; north shore of N.S. still pretty unspoilt and close enough to Halifax AND Charlottetown. I have family on the island, but would stay in N.S.
