"Trust me. Im a doctor. This will only hurt for a moment then you will feel better" 😉

There are moments in a survivalists life when you realize you have just moved up to a different level of prepping. Yesterday we spent 120$ on 2 4 liter jugs of Waterglass or Sodium Silicate. This was one of those moments. As I bungy corded those jugs over the camping gear on my Motor Cycle for the last leg of my summer vacation and caught sight of them dangling through my rear view mirrors I started to understand that I was now in a world that very few preppers had made it to. But before we talk about Waterglass.........

Richard Mitchel, Author of the book, Dancing At Armageddon, a Sociologists study of Survivalism in all its uglier early forms pointed out that the only other group that is remarkably similar to most male survivalists is.....Drag Queens. 😳 Instead of Dresses, wigs and high heels.... we parade our fatigues, guns and tactical harnesses. Instead of make up we own face paint. One is pretending to be a woman....The other is pretending to be a macho man. At a fundamental level its dressing up to play at something we will never be able to be. 😆 Now, I am a rather flamboyant personality that just cant be missed in a crowd and am quite comfortable in my sexuality so when I read that line, I cracked up for at least 15 minits. I have a whole new view of all those Blackwater wannabes that claim to be preppers. And I do have to "come out of the closet" survivalist speaking and laugh at myself publicly, admitting that I have watched myself in the mirror with guns and gear, admiring how bad asses I looked. But on a serious note, we really have done a dis service to young preppers with all this Army Man and White Indian in woods bullshit. Perhaps its just something you have to grow out of in your own time. I may seem snobbish to some but at this point in life, if I talk to a so called prepper and they have more money invested in in guns than in food storage and food production....I just cant cant take them seriously. They are just not past the Drag Queen phase. When I met my common law wife, she started to take me seriously after she asked me about the SAS Handbook. I told her it was a false sense of security. Later I told her," If you want to understand Real Survivalism and Self Sufficiency for the future we are facing, it all starts by truly coming to grips with that refrigeration is a privilege and not a right. If you can really 'get' that...all else follows".

Wich brings us all the way back to......Waterglass. It is a pre refrigeration era method of storing eggs through the winter for when the hens are not producing. Fresh eggs for 6-8 months without canning, pickling or dehydrating. So, this is the subject you can look up and chat about........But as for me.....I just want to meet one or two people that have actually used this method. You see, in getting to this point, only a few permaculture folks I have talked to have even heard of this technique...and the one person that was bragging about this knowledge, I called out. They sheepishly admitted they had never actually done or even seen it. This is a big problem today with modern internet preppers. They watched alot of youtube vids and wrote alot of blogs and have memorized alot of gun statistics and spout alot of political war talk bullshit without being willing to take a punch in the face for it and have gone camping a few times and have watched Rambo a whole two times.....Ah, heck, Im ranting. The point I lost is about experience and physically doing it. KNOWING, in the biblical sense instead of Knowing, in the porn sense. (I wonder how few people will get that last joke)

As for the whole new level...It reminds me that I am not just storing food but I am producing it, Im producing more than I need, Im far enough ahead of the game and realize I have to control the whole years supply, Im using what I store and Im doing it without counting on refrigeration and a societal power grid. Im one more small step closed to food sovereignty. Real freedom. Not the fake kind that people kill each other over to prove that they have it wile never having known a day of real freedom in there lives and not wanting to let others have it also. Do you want to know what freedom taists like. Ill tell you in 8 months when I eat the last egg....knowing that there is alot more coming

(Just an update. Ive added how our experiment is turning out as we go through the winter. You can see those at the end of the comments)

As an ex-military type, I don’t need to parade around in all my weapon finery. Knowing how to use it while trying to look one of the zombies is more my style. Many of us in here are ex-mil and survival trained. When it comes to herbals I let the experts lead, the same with medicine and farming. As you said many of us on this site are YOUTUBE/TV researchers. Well in some aspects so am I, but what I look up, I will try until I have a firm understanding of what I know, then when we meet, I show what I have learned. An Expert, not me, but I pass on what I've learned and learn from others, AND THAT is what real Peppers’ do. Learn, Practice, Teach and Support each other. Are there guppies among us, always, but if you are "Willing" to nurture them (not hold their hand, well maybe a little) they will grow to the point where they can take care of, not only themselves, but others.

As the song goes “We are family, (disjointed, but) all the Preppers and Me” and yes, not all in the family seem normal at times. 😈 😯

Ive heard but never tried an ancient method of using cold earth and digging down approximately two feet or three depending on permafrost. Cuting into the ground like a cold storeage but then filling the ground with rock salt and placing fresh eggs inside of it. Apparently this was a method that the chinease used and also using clay around the egg! Thus came into this world the 1000 yr old egg. My father recalled his uncle using a similar process in Switzerland circa pre ww2 and Im actually thinking about putting it to the test. The unfortuante part is that I would not be able to report on it for at least a month. The chemical reaction of rock salt and water covered in cold earth is supposed to keep bacteria at bay. Again this is in theory. The 1000 year old egg was actually a name given to the process of clay storeage on a bolied egg. Back to you .

I hope I didnt come across TOO condescending and self righteous......Then again, Im not above shaming people into food sovereignty if it will save their lives. I read a post on here recently about a few preppers down south in the latest climate disaster. One didnt have the supplies to get through a couple days. The other didnt have the gas to drive to safety. Now, Im sure those "Preppers" have a better selection of popguns than I and they got a grown up version of the Boy Scout manual...But someone along the way sold them a false bill of goods. It really is yours and my fault. Us older, experienced preppers that have been in harms way and have accumulated some first hand experience in living off our preps and skills. We need to stand up and say, "Fire power and some Boy Scout skills does not make you prepared. That is not a Prepper. Defensive-Offensive fire arms and survival bush craft, are important skills but we should actively start portraying these skills as the Skills Of Losers. We need to tell them that these are the skills you will have to use if you are such a retard that all of your REAL prepps FAILED so miserably that someone is trying to kill you and you are lost in the woods and probably going to slowly starve as a refugee if you arent arrested first for murder, bankrupted in lawyer fees and then ass raped in prison by someone that really is tough and has better survival skills 😮

I dont mind using a little shame on the guppies or self defaciating humor on myself if it points the newbies towards self sufficiency. Its up to us to tell the young'uns to peal off the cammo panty hoes and pick up a garden hoe. So, Back to Waterglass. Do you know anyone thats actually used it. I need some first hand advice just to make sure I got all the facts strait. I need a prepper grownup. 😀

I like the extra pockets and durability of the Military clothing. Civie garbage clothing does not even come close.
Now that being said putting on Combats does not make you a bad ass or a soldier anymore than going into a kitchen and making a sandwich makes you a Chef.

Hi! I love your post cernunnos 5...I find the GI Joe stuff hard to swallow some times, you can't eat a plate of bullets when you are hungry!.lol...OK so I have just done this type of egg storage as a result of this womans 5 month experiment from a 1800 book on food storage, you can watch all the videos of the experiment but this last one was the result...so the verdict is eggs will last at least 5 month when you simply coat them with mineral oil (from the drug store) and store them in an egg carton...cheep and easy, also scramble them without butter and dehydrate them then grind them up to powder in your food processor and vaccumn seal them in a bag and store them, simply rehydrate with a bit of water and they are good as new for scrabled eggs, omlets or baking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xwYBV4WFJI&feature=player_detailpage#t=96s

Thanks for the reply. Every one else got distracted thinking about my legs. Hey boys, Im Up Here! 😕
The mineral oil must be alot cheaper. We pretty much have a lifetime supply of the sodium silicate so our egg voyage is pretty much charted and must be sailed. I wonder how they compair. Same concept. Keep air from penetrating the shell and prevent bacterial decomposition. OMG! like tactical nail polish (Ah, this joke is beginning to get alittle thin.) As it was, we diddnt get more than a small handfull of eggs last week anyhow. We've now learned that the hens dont like laying in the heat either. First cool day happened today and they are back at it. Its all a learning experience. We have a super broody hen and have been informed by friends with an organic farm that want to buy her from us, that brooding behavior has almost been bred out of chickens because of incubater use. Chickens are losing the ability to hatch there own. Weird. I think we better keep her....even if we need to wear motorcycle gloves to get the eggs now. Full on attack chicken. Combat high heels or not, I just cant be seen getting my ass kicked by a chicken.

There was an ancient method that I was trying to find, where whole eggs were covered with lime slip, I believe that it was middle eastern method. Anywho, here is another link for egg preservation.
