The previous attempt to organize a spring meet up was like trying to herd cats so... I have decided to step up and I am announcing a meeting on Saturday August 27th at a local coffee shop in Halifax, exact location TBA. I have chosen Halifax because it seemed local to many folks. FYI I live almost a 2 hour drive away. This meet up is to be casual, just an opportunity to meet & mingle & network. Bring along a story to share about the stupidest prepping mistake you have made so far. Suggesting 2 p.m.. Let me know if this time works.

The meetup location is...The Wired Monk coffee shop on the corner of Morris St and Hollis St. Ill meet and greet upstairs before moving to the more private downstairs. I'm easy to recognize as the 6ft4 biker in the cowboy hat. This should make it easy to rally on me. To help smooth any socially akward moments, I'm asking everyone to bring along a few Prepping related books that have influenced you. Try bringing a book that you think others havent seen before.
Remember to maintain your own operational security but come with an open heart to meet new people with a similal intrest. No risk means no growth. See you there.

I was expecting Cern to post, but about 4 showed up, a good time was had by all!

Edible Wild Plants of the Maritimes - a book that you may like cern, I know you asked about books on edible plants in the maritimes, may be tricky to track down though.

http://northernbushcraft.com/guide.php?ctgy=edible_berries&region=ns the list of edible berries I was telling you about.

May need to look into doing a "self crafted book" to bring together all the plant info for the maritimes, unless someone else knows a good book.

Hey. I just got back today. Here is my report of our first meet up.
It was small. I have to admit, I was disapointed at the lack of people willing to meet other people .....
BUT, The quality of the people that showed up was exillent. Not a Crazy Bugnuts Militant Paranoid survivalist in the bunch.( exept me according to my ex wife. LOL) A computer specialist, a truck driver, A university prof, A few looky loues. If some evil secret government agency was spying on us, they must have been realy board and wondering what they did wrong to get that shit asignment. Ha.
Lets try this again sometime but for me to do it again, I'll need more participation. So contact me if you would like me to try again. No risk meens no growth

Hi, I'm wondering if another get together is planned for this coming summer? I am a single mom, doing the prepping thing here on the South Shore and have yet to meet like minded people near by. Would love to connect with others who see the need for being prepared.

We live in Cape Breton - which is a 4.5 hour drive (give or take - depending on which of us is driving).

The trip would be an overnighter for us, but that might allow us to pick up a few things that I can't find here - like a cast iron dutch oven or two. 😛 Suggestions anyone?

My hubby is 6'4" but not a biker. Been years since he wore a cowboy hat too. lol

But I will toss the idea out to hubby and we will see if we can make it.

Hang on, bluegrrrrl...(proof I am am realy from BC). This message is from last year and you would be realy pissed if you travelled for this since no one would be there. I may be forced to do another but it would be in Truro and people would have to tell me they want to do another. My priority this year is building Prepper community based around my farm, 45 min from Truro. That has made a 2012 meetup a low priority.

Thank you for the information. Maybe I should read more carefully. 😳

bluegrrl,

Why don't you suggest folks meet up in Cape Breton and see who shows up???

Pick a location with a decent sized parking lot and maybe a grassing area. Nothing fancy, everybody takes care of themselves - no host. Informal.

Could work??
