Hey, I'm pretty new here and have been going through the posts, finding lots of great ideas and information. I'm new to being a prepper, though I haven't quite started yet, the idea has been in my mind for a while now. Though watching the history channel last night and tonight made me want to kick it into high gear, seems to many SHTF scenarios are racing against eachother though they also all seem to be connected. The show that was on last night was called "Prophets of Doom" which were leading experts discussing the top scenarios, such as Oil, Water, Epidemics, even too a robotic takeover ( kinda laughed, but the guy made quite a point.) The one that I am currently watching is more about an epidemic, and how it would shut down cities and the weeks afterwards etc, included with skits of a family going through "what's expected". After Armageddon". As I said before these kind of things have been going through my head for a while, and figure why not start now before its too late. Id also read to books and will probably be reading the again soon, 1.How to survive the end of the World as we know it By James Wesley Rawles. (founder of survivalblog.com) 2. The Zombie survival guide (cause you never know, lol) though if I remember it does provide some good information.

Glad to find the site, and hope to find some friends.

I watched both of these shows and I found the second giving a very realistic view of what could happen. Just wish more people would realize this.

I can tell you that at least one agency in Ontario takes disaster preparedness very seriously. They focus on what they consider to be the two most likely disasters, one or both of which will (not might) impact us. They are:
1. Pandemic events - think about the movie "Contagon" and you're on the right track
2. EMP events - think about the new series "Revolution" and you're on the right track
If you think the logistics of preparing yourself and your family for these two events are daunting, just imagine how much more daunting it is to try and prepare for the unprepared!

Welcome Newfenian and greetings from Northern Ontario. Glad to hear that you are starting your preps. It can seem a little daunting at first but take your time and go one step at a time and you will be fine. It is always good to be preppared.
