I'd like to get some SHTF flea killer for my dogs. Any ideas?

Diatomaceous earth. It's got all kinds of uses for all kinds of pests to include fleas. DE can be dusted on the floor, bedding, and pets and livestock (horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, ducks), used internally as a dewormer, and used in the garden. I have also heard of pinching just a little at the inside corners of ears to get rid of mites, but I've never seen it and won't vouch for adding a powder to ears.

It will kill anything that has a certain type of exoskeleton and a lot of soft bugs, so could be harmful to some of the beneficial garden insects. Very few chemical pesticides are particularly selective when it comes to the good bugs.

You can also try 1:1 water and vinegar for dogs and horses, and it helps with fleas and flies. I can't take the smell of white vinegar and have become sensitive to apple cider vinegar as I get older, too.

We've used one similar to this for fleas and ticks on dogs, horses, and Ollie the Ox:

Except only the dogs were in the house and we used DE instead of Borax in the carpets. There were cats there, but they weren't getting ticks and just had DE dustings.

The last I heard, Diatomaceous earth (DE) was subject to government restrictions requiring proper handling.

For those who don't know what Diatomaceous earth is, here's the story:

Diatomaceous earth consists of fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae that lived long ago. We're fortunate that deposits of this substance can be found in harvestable quantities. It was first discovered in 1836, and famously became a stabilizing ingredient in dynamite.

It's uses: It is commonly used in lieu of boric acid, and can be used to help control and possibly eliminate bed bug, house dust mite, cockroach, ant and flea infestations. Diatomite is used as an insecticide, due to its abrasive and physico-sorptive properties. The fine powder absorbs lipids from the waxy outer layer of insects' exoskeletons, causing them to dehydrate. Arthropods die as a result of the water pressure deficiency.

Natural freshwater diatomaceous earth is used in agriculture for grain storage as an anticaking agent, as well as an insecticide. It is approved by the United States Department of Agriculture as a feed supplement to prevent caking.

It is also used as a natural anthelmintic (dewormer). Some farmers add it to their livestock and poultry feed to prevent the caking of feed. "Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth" is widely available in agricultural feed supply stores.

When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fail, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.

Don't forget to use a dust mask when handling/spreading DE.

Flea combs would be the best non-chemical way to get rid of fleas, it would require work on upkeep on your part but it would get the job done.

Here is something I have used for many years. Never had a flea or tick problem for all the time I have had them or any other kind of problem come to think of it.

I add garlic often and a wee tiny bit of cayenne pepper to their food bi-monthly.
Easy nuff enough to grow and have on hand or stock up on, if one can't grow in their location.

A good garlic oil for their ears will keep mites away.
