Thanks for getting back. Cobourg isn't too bad for me. I am a little west of Hamilton. What area "north and west" are you looking at?

Both areas are nice. What sort of training / exercises do you have in mind? I am definitely interested.

first since it is crown land we will have to park and hike in setup camp , what we do mostly is explore try to identify editable plants, teach the kids different fire making skills as well as medical. The only food we bring is dehdyrated we either have a fire or at times there is a fire ban we use alcohol stoves. we also practice setting up shetters from natrual elements. For us it is not a party weekend or week we bring no booze, we also do some setting up of snares and target practice for the kids using a sling shot or crossbow. as well as fishing, dependiing on time. Crown land camping is great and best of all free and you can move around to different locations, basically we practice different survival skills.

if interested send me a pm and we can get to know each other.

It sounds good to me. I am not much of a drinker and prefer to enjoy nature and the outdoors without "enhancements"... What distance are you hiking in? The reason I ask is that I am a little older and my knees are shot so too far could be problematic. I'll send you a pm.

For you backcountry people, what do you do to keep the horseflies away. I dont have deer flies but the horseflies are annoying and they hurt to the point I need long sleeves and twill everything just so I dont get bit. Deet doesnt do much for me.

I usually go to Algonquin park in the late summer interior camping so I might be interested in this. Can we bring tents or is it shelter only?

JAB - don't worry about your knees man. If you bring a box dolly we'll wheel you in no problem

tents are fine , we know lots of spots. i usually stay away from parks, you cannot harvest plants and for the parks you have to stay on schedule. we only go crown land.
