To the Posters, we are not picking on you, just hoping to help and are very concerned so we seem to be a little uptight, we mean well.
There are no slights intended by us but Being Ex Military the last 3 of us, we have lots of experience with firearms, ammunition and the effects of ammo on all kinds of objects.
Take care..

I actually have fired a gun underwater during water training with the US Navy by the way I am ex US army. I wouldnt suggest going in someone's pool and start shooting like your at the range, but if you find yourself in a marine environment you would have better chances shooting with marine spring cups and sealing the rounds. The spring cups were made so when a gun is fired there is less pressure behind them causing the gun explode. Thats why all US Special forces put them in the glock 17 which in a bigger frame 9mm.Estimated effective range on a 9mm isnt great to begin with but if for some reason you were in a struggle you could get a few shots off. And as long as they are within about 6 feet it will penetrate. With all that said I wouldn't do it out of a training environment unless it was life or death. I understand people can google things but I am talking about personal experience. No offense to anyone in any way shape or form.
Sorry I didn't introduce myself before.... A little background on me

I am embarrassed, 😳 I have been caught short on something that I was trained never to do. 😯 After watching these videos, I am surprised that divers in shark zones don’t have hand guns. If anything, I think just the noise of it would drive sharks away. I wonder how far a sabot round would travel.
I have been taught something new, that differs from an age old misconception that has always been taught. Thank you sir. (that’s sir with a small "s", I wouldn’t want to call you and officer unless your are one.) 😉

Now for part two: Tests have been conducted where various calibers, up to and including .50 cal. sniper rounds, have been fired into water (not fired in water but fired into water). The tests have shown that if you have skin like a peach, you could suffer a bruise from the .50 cal. sniper round if you are deeper than three feet. Smaller rounds are not much more than an annoyance after three feet. So, even if you could fire a gun underwater without blowing your hand apart, at an effective range of less than three feet, what would be the point.
As far as the .50 Cal goes that test was made mainstream by the "Myth-busters" no actual test besides that has ever really been done. Again they fired in "INTO" not "IN" when you look at studies most weapons will fire further when submerged. But at the same time there are many factors involved such as the type of round ie (Hollowpoint, FMJ), grain size, size of round(9mm,45,357).
My apologies, all of my training and all the research I've read pointed to a catastrophic failure whenever a weapon is fired underwater. Just when I get all huffy and indignant about a discussion on the subject, I get proven wrong. 😳
All things being equal though, the only way anyone will convince me to try it, is if they agree to be my target. Thank you can-am for your expertise. It's much appreciated, even when you have to embarrass one of us. I'd rather be embarrassed than misinformed. 🙂

No problem just thought I would let everyone know. And as far as maritime spring cups go you are able to run them just like the regular ones for those interested in purchasing them. I run them 24/7 "Just In Case" I don't want to be that guy when SHTF on my hands and knees in the middle of the street trying to swap parts out. LOL
Wow, ok I only made the comment that the Glock can shoot underwater to show how versatile it is. I have no intention on shooting it underwater not would I recommend it. It was just to say that if it fires underwater then rain won't effect it. The basis of this post was the conversion barrel for the glock I can shoot 9mm and 40. That makes it a great gun for SHTF situation. I disagree with the wheel gun theory. I believe I'm just as accurate as any wheel gun, in the same caliber. However for hunting I would use a .22 rifle or made a pistol if the opertunity for squirrel or rabbit was presented. Please no more underwater comments!!!!! Wow
its a good quality as have heared about the .22 handgun but its just the same to the .45 cos its working if u trying to work it .. its good if u have that .22 its just small but durable..
Greetings:
I am a big fan of the Glock. But, (there's always a but), for the average person I think a good solid revolver is best. Failure rate is much lower than a semi auto. I think you need to ask yourself the first big question; what is it's primary use?
Some one said most trained police officers cannot hit the side of a barn with their weapons, too true. It's one thing to shoot on a range, it is completely different in a life or death encounter. Most gun fights take place at less than 10 feet and most rounds miss. Excitement, adrenalin and a bunch of other hormones are dumped into your blood stream. If your gun club will let you, run flat out for 5 minutes and then immediately walk up to the line and try to hit the target.
Pistol is always a good back up. My front line is a Remington 870 12 gauge pump shotgun.
Anyway, my 2 cents.
