Hello everyone. I am a prepping baby and would love advice, I live in the barrie area on a 3/4 of an acre. Not a lot of land but big enough to do something with. I have watched doomsday prepper and by no means am i crazy lololol but do want to prepare for a crisis. I am thinking of at least 3 to6 months of supplies.

What I have done so far:
1. Starting to by extra food. I do most of my shopping at Costco and a trying to by a little extra each time I go
2. I have purchases a rain tank that needs to be hooked up
3. Husband has started a garden

Kim.

Welcome to the forum and greetings from Northern Ontario. If you have 3/4 of an acre you already have more than most and there is a lot that you can do with that amount of land. You don't have to be doomsday prepper to be a prepper. Eventually something may happen but it much more likely to be a weather related storm or flood that will leave you on your own for a couple of days. So it is good to be prepared.

You will find the folks on this forum friendly, courteous and most of all helpful. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask, there are no stupid questions.

Hey and welcome here,
make sure you have a Rain Flow Diverter for the Rain Tanks this will serve you well in lower TDS and bacteria/etc contamination.

Just to let some of you know, after being out of a job for over a year, I've finaly found work. A good thing too, because my larder was getting low as well as my deep freeze. All of my GOoD, money has been used up, except for my silver which has lost a 1/3 of its value. But what I'm saying is, if I hadn't put this away for hard times, we would be bankrupt now. Prepping works people, if I hadn't stockpiled my assets, my ass would be in a sling right now. Now as soon as the pay starts coming in, I'll be able to start rebuilding my stocks and my GOoD money. CHEERS

Welcome J1234 = I'm from Eastern Ontario. You're doing the right thing, putting away alittle food each time you shop and a water tank/rain barrels is pretty important even for watering the garden during this drought year.

Ranger2012 - Congratulations on the new job! I understand about using our Preps - been there, done that when our family had a personal SHTF crisis. It makes you KNOW that prepping really works! It's taken me almost 5 years to get back up to the level that I was at before...........and still a ways to go.

On the subject of rain barrels, I have sediment catch tank (5 gal) hooked up in btwn the diverter and barrel. Sure saves on the clean up at the end of fall and you won’t have all that gunk in the water. Be sure to clean out the catch tank often, less bacteria that way.

Do you have your P.A.L? Having firearms is important too.

Even if you just get a .22. If TSHTF, you'll want to be familiar with a firearm to hunt for food, and for self protection. Think about it - you live in Barrie which has a fairly dense population. People are nice in times of plenty but if there was a total breakdown of society it would not be too long before people start hurting or killing others for supplies, this is just human nature. They'll think twice if you are armed, and hopefully will go someplace else because they won't want to risk it.

Another thing you may want to plan for is the bug out contingency. Basically if your city is burning with rioting sheeple, you'll want to be nowhere near them. Have some maps marked out with some bug out locations, and several ways to get there. Have plans to use a bug out vehicle, but also plan that you're going to have to hoof it. Plan for friends and family members and plan for pets.

On the gardening side, learning is good. Make sure you have some heirloom seeds. Store some in sealed bags in the freezer so they will keep. If you have to bug out and it looks like you may never be coming back, being able to grow stuff is great.

There's lots of other stuff too but it looks like you're starting out very well I'd say.

It's better to prep for something that may never happen than not prep for something that does.

My husband is starting to install the Rain barrel. I will let him know about the Rain Flow Diverter. Thanks for that advice.

I understand that I should have a bug out location, but have none. Any ideas?
