If your plan is to BUG IN in the big city
Just look at New York after Sandy
People are still with out power
Fuel for cars and heat is scarse or even rationed
Some whent for days before red cross came with food clothes and warm blankets
Water is still iffy in places and so bad in others you can not use it even after boiling
No heat and second storm comes with -- temperatures and snow problems just to add insult to injury
Whole neighborhoods are being looted in a single nite

Now is the time to plan and get ready
Where are your family and friends you can go to
You want to teach them about prepping copy some stories about Sandy
I just moved from the city to a small town now am lookin for BO location if required
We are all in this together be safe

We live in a society of wolves ,
We can't fight back by creating more sheep

I have actually used both what happened in New York/New jersery as a stepping stone on my blog. I don't think what I posted has made much of a difference except to one person in Australia.

I changed how I try to get people to do more in kind of evil ways. For example; standing in line at the grocery store the person behind me was purchasing sugar that was on sale but just one bag. My comment to them was something to the effect - wow you are only buying one bag? With that kind of sale price plus the fact sugar doesn't go bad how come you aren't buying more?

I read somewhere, not where this quote is from but similar in nature, defining a city.

"people living more or less permanently in one place in densities high enough to require the routine importation of food, energy and other necessities of life."

You don't need to be living in a BIG city to experience Big problems if the S should ever HTF.

Given that I pretty much live 2 blocks from any amenity I could ever imagine (downtown Calgary) I can see how easy it is to get lulled into a false sense of security and convenience. However, I grew up with food rationing and military strife in a third world country, so I've always made sure to stock up in case of emergencies. I also spent a decade living in a rural village outside Winnipeg. That taught me some Canadian self-sufficiency. 🙂

Things people rely on but usually don't take into consideration:

- running water (drinking, washing, cleaning, showering)
- electricity / lights / communications
- heating (gas/electric)
- fuel for our modes of transportation (public transportation, automobiles, motorcycles, airplanes)
- food availability (grocery stores)

These all come from somewhere, and in reality are much more time consuming to gather for ourselves than simply pulling out a credit card to pay for. Most people don't even know how to source clean drinking water for themselves, much less food, warmth, and fuel. It would be safe to say that if something like New York happened here in Calgary, it would be business as usual for me and my family, as with most of you.

Cheers
