In my vehicle BOB I have a few mountain house type meals, heat up some water, let sit and eat.
I thought about MREs but know that the lifespan would be reduced as they would be sitting in the trunk during the winter and summer months. Anyone have other suggestions to food items for the vehicle keeping in mind possibly having to heat the meal?

Thanks

Lifeboat rations are a viable alternative. They are designed to be in lifeboats in any weather.. hot or cold , wet or dry and NOT in a climate controlled storage. They are guaranteed for 5 years from date of manufacture. They are high calorie, not thirst provoking, a balanced nutrition of calories, vitamines and minerals. Each ration is individually packed so you can eat one and the rest are sealed. No preparation and no heating required. Datex is one brand.

It sounds like Datrex bars are definitely the way to go for a Vehicle B.O.B. I keep them in both of my own B.O.B.'s.

You'll find a my thoughts and review on them in the Freeze Dried/Dehydrated Foods Review thread in the General Discussion forum.
