Hi all,

The canning season is approaching its height, and I am looking for places in or in a reasonable vicinity of the GTA where I can buy fresh produce by the bushel (at decent prices, of course).
There is one such place (which I gladly advertise to the fellow forum members), "Cataldi" (and no, I am not affiliated with them 😀 ), but their assortment is quite limited (tomatoes, eggplants, sweet peppers, apples, garlic, and some other odd bits).

But they don't carry broccoli or cauliflower, for instance.

Any leads?

Your best source is going to be anywhere along the side roads within the north part and exiting York Region. There are lots of places in and around the Bradford area in which farmers sell directly. I'm in contact with a farmer in that area and I'll post some specific locations shortly if you're interested. He knows the locals and they sell in bulk. Unfortunately, all he's growing this year is SOY.

Going to the local farmers market within Aurora, Newmarket and East Gwillimbury are excellent sources as well, as you're in direct contact with the farmers growing the crops. These markets are not too far from Toronto and I can give you their specific locations if you would like. If you're purchasing from a store then you're giving a middle-man some coin.

I've been to several farmers markets around, and can't say any of them were a real bargain 🙁

So if you've got any specific names / locations that you personally have a good experience with - that would be appreciated.

khk,...you don't mention whether you're looking for organic or conventional produce, but isn't it a factor when you seem to emphasize "bargain".
In this sense, you'll get what you pay for.
All i have available this year is organic garlic....had no time for anything else surplus.
Good luck in finding what you need.
