A comment Mrs T made got me thinking. Yes, that is what you smelled burning.

People do cookie swaps at Christmas time so why not do a canning swap. Some of the things that I make I only want one or two jars but the recipes make 8 or 9. I usually gift the "extras".

Mom wants me to make her some of my "burn your nose hair off" hot cranberry jelly. No one else that I know still eats it. It would be things like that, that I was thinking about setting up a canning trade. Or for those things you want to try before you make them.

any comments, pro or con would be appreciated

I have heard of them down in your neck of the woods, they seem really popular and I think its a great idea, I love the idea of everyone brings their items, gets a ticket for each jar you bring and you just turn in your tickets on what you want to take back, simple.
