So I bought the entire line of Dietz Lanterns from 3 dealers. Had them deliver to Ottawa.

Would you like a review of Leamans, WT Kirkmans or Lee Valley? Maybe how the transaction or delivery went? I also had two defects and I'll say the dealers were accomodating.

I bought a #76 Original, #80 Blizzard, #20 Jounior, #8 Air Pilot, 2500 Jupitor, a #1 Little Wizard and a #90.

Let me know and I'll write a review of the lanterns or dealers.

Cheers

Short question. Long answer.

Depends.

What do you prefer? (in terms of your needs)

Each, in honesty, have thier devoted advantage and disadvantage (perhaps in terms of plurals, both formal and latter). It would be easier to respond in specifcs.

Just thought after trying them all out you might have a favorite. However I have the same problem with folding knives. I have a few and some are better than others depending on the intended use and circumstance.

I was thinking about buying a couple of the #80's. Are they worth the cost?

My uses include:

Big outdoor, small out door, small room, large room. Of course these lanterns also have a decorative advantage.

WT Kirkman has the best service. Broken part sent 2 days later; no questions asked. Again, great sevice. I understand they have two preparatory lantern verions of the dietz #80 and #20. I'm not sure of the quality but I look forward to trying thier products someday.

1. Outdoor. a) Will the lantern be low (floor) or b) High (above the waist) c) What about weather?

2. Indoor. a) Will the lantern be used to light a room? Or perhaps just a table?

3. Quality (both material and asethetics)? Ease of use? Durability?

Good questions.

#80s:
Big. Bright. Did I mention big?
Really nice inside with lots of light. The "hourglass" shape really draws the air in and makes for a much more efficient flame. Problem is the wider the wick the harder to trim for a good flame. Expect some tuning for the wick and some ouder. Once its set up it works well. The glass is thin so the rain may crack it if its hot; bring it in when its rainy and still hot. Its hard to perfect the wick. Its nice and warm when it sitting happy next to you 🙂
I got two for 17 bucks each from Lee Valley. Good value considering I spent more on beer that weekend lol. Delivery for the lanters doubled the price.
Be warned: an imperfect wick will consume your time. These lanterns are full sized so that may also affect your application. I may use them on a large deck outside or definitly in a room if the wick is perfected.

Cheers

I love lamps!
I do have a Dietz junior in my collection and will bring it along to the Provincial meet, as well as one or two others so that I can compare them.
I get mine from garage sales, and knowing how cheap I am, probably paid $5.00 or less for it.
I have several glass lamps for indoor use during power failures and one of them is really, really old (family hand me down).
The Dietz style lanterns I have mostly for outdoor or out building use, but would not hesitate to try them indoors, although I don't see why I would, since I have so many of the glass ones for inside.
