We were wondering if any would be interested in forming a community for our mutual protection? The members could either share our land, buy their own or perhaps participate from where ever they happen to be. Our focus is on Northern Ontario near Matheson.

The food coop would consists of farms and gardens, we prefer to call our holding a ranch. rather than members having to grow all sorts of vegetables and Livestock, members could focus on a particular crop and then exchange those crops at the coop for other stuff. We actually need building supplies. Anyhow, members could also purchase crop or feed or what have you for cash. We could even sell our coop goods as organic to outsiders and at the farm price to members. I prefer gold and silver to cash.

The point is, to be truly self-sufficient we have to provide for our own needs and it would be nice to have a community of like minded people to watch each other's back.

Let me know what you think?

Hi greenshield,
I am new to the prepper site , but we have been prepping for a while now and looking for something like this but not sure how to go about it. I really think that you have to have other people around with different skill levels and occupations. My husband and I were just looking at some land in this area but not sure how far this is from where we currently live. We are in Peterborough, and getting really tired of family and friends telling us we are crazy so our next alternative is to find people who think the same. My husband is a carpenter, and we also do a very large garden in the summer and I jar alot of stuff, and am pretty versatile with alot of stuff. (eg. crochet, make candles, jar jam, pickles etc.) How much would it cost to be in this community? Also I think it is important to be able to trust people so a police check would be ok as we have three teenagers and safety for them is a huge thing for me.

Just an Idea for building supplies, depending on your needs. If you don’t mind second hand stuff, put out feeler to different construction/renov. companies. If they have to tear it out, the have to toss it in a dump bin and that cost them money. If you let them know what your interested in they will tell to be at such an such a place. Doors, windows, counter and cupboards, some wall lumber, sometimes trash some salvageable.

I'm in the North Bay area..... you might want to consider this neck of the woods. My wife and I have a small homestead here. Land is a little more money but alot of people have a self sufficient mindset and are supportive of a more holistic way of life including buying from CSAs and farmers markets. There is a also a general distrust of government.

I hope your idea works out!
