@Oddmott: you're not welcome to post here again. Smeg off you self-centered, egotistical capitalist douche.
I was responding directly to a question about what to do with a freeloader. At no point did i make reference to dealing with an individual who simply couldn't "do-all".

I wouldn't expect a farmer to know how to construct concrete bastions and i wouldn't expect a cabinet maker to know how to dress and cure a fur. I would never consider pushing for either to be removed from a group because they didn't know how to do some particular task.
A full blown freeloader however is a different story, and the possibility they'll exist and attempt to take advantage of the rest of the group must be accepted and planned for.
My comment, while potentially offensive, was meant to be brusque and a wake up to any who are considering building a community, but don't take this very important component into account.
It has nothing to do with ego - i'm not attempting to build such a community and am not competing with you in any way - it has to do with a major concern that I have with the prepper movement. I know FAR too many "good" people, who mean well and put themselves - and all that they have - on the line for such a vision, only to be taken advantage of and trodden on by the "freeloaders".
I would hate for you or any others to be similarly taken advantage of.
It's coming... and it's going to hurt!

I was nice about it oddmott, but you had to push it, people like you always do.
For humanity to become anything more than scavenging rats in a world gone to hell we have to give up notions we had trained into us by a society based on money and debt. Do you give a homeless man money when he needs it? I hope so because then there may just be enough karma left for someone to do the same for you should you find yourself in same situation; then again most people like you would rather take what you need and say to hell with those that had it.
Some preppers want to protect themselves and their families, some just want to protect themselves and I say both are wrong. To survive, we need to be better than that. There is no scenario where following the ideals of a society that self-destructed will make surviving afterwards worth it at all. The only way to survive is to be truly human, giving, caring and not concerned with wealth or providence.
Freeloaders will eventually come around and they will realize that the community is worth being a part of...people like you will never be a part of anything greater than yourselves and when the rations get low, people like you will eat each other and show your true colors in blood and teeth. Your ideals and lofty goals will die with the world we live in right now and no one will mourn you but the thirty pieces of silver you clung to.
So your going to have a more socialist philosophy around your proposed community? It will involve group efforts and the such? Any decision on the layout, type of structure, etc.?

*shakes head*
Carry on and enjoy. When you learn the most basic definition of the term "preparation" maybe i will consider your vitriol worth listening to.
As it stands, i pity any group who would follow you in any endeavour. Your inability to comprehend simple English, your penchant to project undue negativity upon others and your willingness to endanger your group's well-being all point to severe leadership deficiencies.
Revisit this thread after you have a few more years of group prepping and community building under your belt. Visit with some of the folks who have tried and failed (there are quite a few on these boards), see if you haven't changed your tune. Freeloaders kill communities.
There is a vast difference between taking care of your group (which I wholeheartedly do), and supporting "freeloaders".

Odd...I hope I'm wrong about you, for yours and the sake of those that would trust you, I hope I'm wrong.
I reread Oddmotts comments again looking for the rudeness etc. Sorry, can't see any. Did see an honest attempt at adding a good dose of common sense to the plan. Unless you have mechanisms in place to deal with the deadbeats, boat anchors etc then you are screwed right from the get go. This is the same if it's a preppers group, shift of workers in a factory or any other collection of people working together. People not pulling their weight without GREAT reasons are a nothing but a cancer.
I'm not too keen on vacant land where everyones unit has to be built from scratch. Many people might not
live nearby and it would be a huge investment to build a second home, when you also need to be
buying equipment, supplies, and restocking .If it was a real SHTF situation I don't think people would care what the units looked like. Wouldn't people
be favoring function and survival ?I can't help but wonder if modular cabins wouldn't be the way to go. They're cheap, easy to renovate and don't need as much insulation for Canadian winter as you might expect.
I have purchased a trailer frame 8x32 and intend to have my tiny house frame and exterior completed by the fall and interior the winter project. Once I do find a place for BOL or BO group I will have a completely off grid home that suits me just to a T.
This is a way to prepare with no debt just pay as you build, no mortgage after and low to no future utilities its on wheels so no probs where I live only have to check DOT height regs
We live in a society of wolves ,

Good plan Muleskinner:
I also have a 29' frame which i plan to use for similar, as a contingency, depending on how things develop.
Does yours have a 6-bolt, triple axle?(15,000lb)
Mine is only a tandem, 10,000lb, and am concerned it won't be enough for a full build, but only the shell, with reinforcing inside till i get it to my site. My info suggests that it's about 400lbs. per foot for a full build with loft.
I believe the DOT limit is 13'6" when i checked a few yrs.ago.
Nice pouch! Have you ever done full-grain double , superthick mocassins?
Yes I went with three axles and I think you are right about that height
Moccasins not something I have tried yet

If you do, let us know - leather working can be taught to a monkey in an afternoon, but real talent in it is a completely different demon; you definitely show talent in it and I would love to see what you could do with clothing let alone armor.
My post disappeared... anyways, you can get up to 7000 pound axles. A tandem would haul 14000 pounds which is beyond most 3/4 ton trucks. How much would a 30 ft trailer with 2x4 construction weigh?

A good time to invest in spf3000 if you live on the NK penninsula.
Oh November 17, how I fear thee...

Without furniture it could weigh as much as 4K, I've gone through a lot of presentations people have made about their trailer homes that they've built and most of them seem to come in between 3500 and 5000 for the 30ft trailers.
What kind of weight elimination tricks are y'all taking advantage of when building your trailer cabins? I'm assuming building with balsam (light weight) and cedar (durability), maybe shedding some non-essential metal from the trailer chassis, installing only the newer style thin-cell solar panels.... ?
