ok who do you believe if the weather network has a different outlook then environment canada?
Environment Canada has:
Statements
City of Hamilton
3:35 PM EST Wednesday 01 January 2014 Special weather statement for
City of Hamilton continued
Significant snowfall tonight and Thursday.
A slow-moving warm front just south of the Great Lakes has brought snow to Southwestern Ontario. The snow will continue tonight and end late in the day Thursday. General snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected from this event, with higher amounts possible for the Windsor region. Higher amounts are also possible over areas near the western end of Lake Ontario where northeast winds off the lake may add to the snow totals. In addition, some areas will see gusty winds and local blowing snow. Because of the long duration of this event, about 30 to 36 hours for most areas, snowfall warnings may not be needed. Snowfall warnings are issued when 15 cm or more of snow is forecast within a period of 12 hours or less. However Environment Canada is monitoring this situation and will issue further updates as required. Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca.
The weather network has 5 to 10 cm and no wind chill alert. 😕
Isn't that part of the storm down east in the states? Hercules? If so they are saying loads of snow and may well close down major hwys before it hits. For NY they are saying 9 inches...other saying possible more.
Earlier today saw some maps and it covered a huge area!
Will see if I can find the links to those. again and post for you.
I think I would listen to Weather office on that one...but thats just me.

Oldschool,
As a pilot, I've learned that weather forecast beyond 12 hours is little more than horoscope with numbers, if it happens, it's almost more by luck.
Now, sarcasm aside, the weather network uses data from environment Canada to make its forecast. That doesn't mean it's more refined, simply that based on the raw data, they put it through their own computer model and it gets analysed by their own forecasters. That said, in my neck of the woods (rural AB), I've found that TWN tends to be quite off.
The weather statement from Env Canada is for a broader region than just your city so it is not likely to be as precise and they also state that this snowfall event will occur over a 30+ hour period.
Good luck with the weather guesstimating game! 🙂
Special case here. "West end of Lake Ontario lake effect snowfall" situation.
Wind is coming around to the East. Hamilton sits at the West end of Lake Ontario.
If the wind is just right you could get a crapload of snow. A few degrees more North and you miss almost all of it and Grimsby gets the load. A bit more from the South and Burlington gets dumped on.
Most all will be below the escarpment as the now moisture laden air that has flowed all the way down the lake is forced to climb over the escarpment. A bit over the top rim but very little past that.
Watch the wind Old School. That will tell you the most in this case.
Right now they're calling for NE winds at first and then coming North, Grimsby and St Kitts should see the brunt of it but if the wind shifts more east...........
lol..looks like I am in for some more as well. Hadn't looked yet tonight.
15 cm to 25 cm.... means lots more shoveling. *sigh*
I can't find those other links right now O.S., sorry.
Be safe all in the storm's path. And as always..prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

thanks all
I was hoping if I feel well enough & the weather is ok on heading down Niagara way. I was also thinking with higher winds, lines may come down again due to the patches the hydro crews did to get the power up and running.
I have signed up for email alerts/weather warnings from Environment Canada for my specific small town area. It's handy.
BTW, it's winter = expect snow and cold. Today it's warmed up to -30C at 9:30 a.m. with a north wind chill -39. Bloody cold! I'm hibernating for a few days lol.
