I look forward to your pictures and information on the tapco mags. How do you find the tapco stock and mags? Any feed problems with the mags? Would that 'bill' that extends off the mags be easy to break off? Does the stock seem plasticy and does it have play or is it solid?
I was tempted to go the tapco route but kept my original stock.... despite the stock being made for a 5 foot midget it seems pretty rugged.... There is a block in the box magazine pinning to 5 rounds that could be relatively to lose after a total collapse. Infact I've heard reports of the occasional one falling out, even now.
😀 How long did it take after they cashed your cheque to receive your license .I did the course in May and have not got anything yet but payment came out of account .LUV this site nice to see like minded ppl
Took about 8 weeks after I mailed in my application. Checks usually take longer they say because they have to cash and verify them or some crap like that, which is why I went credit card.
Welcome to the club, I recommend you start off shooting a .22 to get the hang of shooting then move up to things with recoil like big rifles and shotguns - they can have quite the kick!

I purchased a tapco mag today and it is SOLID. That duckbill is SOLID and the mag is made of a super solid polymer material, not plastic. I ordered another duckbill mag with the tapco stock because I heard you may have to modify it a big. My plan for if TSHTF is to modify the mag ONLY if there is no more government (you know what I'm talking about), then load it from the top using stripper clips to have both (the you know what I'm talking about) and a very light and high capacity ammo carry.

Good stuff! Ruger has been having supply issues because they are over ordered so you may have trouble finding a 10/22. I did. I finally found some at Elwood Epps in Orillia, they do online ordering and have great prices.
I would also think about picking up a 12 gauge shotgun too. If there are only two weapons you will ever get, a .22 and a 12 gauge would be them. A 12 gauge has common ammo and is very versatile. Depending on the cartridge load you can take anything from a pheasant to a moose.
What is CTC?

Canadian Tire Corporation or crapy tire LOL Looking at shotguns too!!!
Bows & trigger in Brantford have them in stock too .And the 22 ammo is $14 for 333 bulk pack .Also of interest is a rechargeable solar lantern for $37.49 .The Mossberg 590A1 - Marine looks good for a a shotgun but will go with a more practical hunting shotgun like a Mossberg 500 All Purpose Field Any input is welcome and appreciated

I ended up with a Remington 570 Express super magnum. It is a good gun, lots of parts and aftermarket upgrades. It's a super magnum so it can take 2 3'4", 3" and 3.5" shells. Although the 3.5" shells aren't that common.
I'd recommend whatever you get, make sure it can take both the 2 3/4" and 3" shells so you aren't limited.

I put the tapco stock and mag all together last night. Thought I'd share with a picture. It's solid as heck and I no longer have any length problems. I'm not entirely sold on the detachable magazine yet. I'm going to see if I can feed it using the stripper clips like the box magazine. I'll let you know how it performs after the next trip to the range. But regardless, isn't this a nice piece of badassery?

This thread finally got me to look around for a course. Unfortunately, here in Quebec, there are plenty of french courses to be had. I do speak french reasonably well, but for something as important as this, I would prefer english. Anyway, I found one in August, about a 2 hour drive from me. $71.00 which includes to book and exam. I'll be calling to book my place later today. I also didn't realize that it took 6 months to get the PAL! Oh well, no guns under the christmas tree this year!
Hi Denob. where did you found that course? And how long time took you to obtain the PAL?
If you are looking for a course in English (and he may do French ones also or know who does) contact Spiros, the owner of Vieux Duluth restaurant in Lasalle. He is excellent and a very serious guy.
Psst. Here's a secret way to get your PAL much faster.
As soon as you sign up for the course (or even well before), apply for your PAL immediately. There is a mandatory minimum 30-45 day delay from the time that they receive your application until they can issue it. They will reply at some point asking for proof of successfully having completed the course (in Quebec it's the hunting permit that you receive from the provincial government after completing the course).
By the time that your course is completed and the hunting permit has arrived at your address, 45 days will have gone by. As soon as you email, snail mail or fax a scan of both sides of your hunting permit (the proof of having passed the course), they will immediately issue and send you your PAL, no waiting!
Congrats on the PAL.
I had no idea the wait time was so long now. I got my first FAC in '92 and then had to do the course when it expired..I want to say '97. The wait then was considerably less.
I can't help but wonder if the long wait is due to the numbers of new applications after they abolished the long gun registry, or if the wait time is the Firearms Center's way of getting back at firearms owners.

The Cdn Firearms center is not permitted to issue a PAL in less than 30-45 days after receipt of application. There are some provinces where the wait can be much longer but this is due to the provincial firearms officer being overloaded with applications to approve (for the CFC) or on vacation. I found the CFC is always very helpful, friendly, efficient and quite eager to assist. They have their nice, well paid jobs because of people like us.
