Choose a gun, any gun, only one for our post apocolyptic world and explain why...
Remington 870 Pump Tactical....
I know it back to front
Can be used for hunting
Self defense CQB (cant miss with buck)
With a good soild can drop targets at 150 meters with iron sights
Numerous rounds for very different purposes
Short enough to put in footwell of car
Easy to armour
Easy to clean
One of the best selling guns of all time, therefore loads of spare parts.....

Can't argue with that logic. Seems to be the Jack of all Trades.
One day, the lowly farmer will be King
Winchester Defender - 8 shot full stock - have had it for over 20 years - know it like the back of my hand - as good or better than the 870 and just happen to have a 30" barrel to fit it as well. So I can pick them out of the sky as well. And even with a full stock it fits nicely under a trench coat.
If SHTF happened tomorrow, I would have to be content with my bolt action .22 and SKS
But at some point (when I have the $) I want to get a 12-guage, and would probably go for an 870 because of their reputation, and the fact that post-collapse it would be the easiest shotgun to find spare parts for, or find someone to help me fix it, and so on.
And yeah, shotguns sound great for their versatility in terms of being able to use everything from birdshot to buckshot to slugs.

Agreed and for similar reasons, the only thing I did to modify it was take a round file and make the grooves larger in the front grip, better control.
mine also had 2 barrels, one for slugs and one for shot. Excellent, great control and great groupings.
Hey adamandah
Don't over look the Mossberg 500. Both the Mossberg and the Remington are battle proven shotguns. Cost wise the Mossberg is a better deal for the combo set and have a look at the Mossberg JIC, Me I just happen to be a Winchester fan.

I have thought about the 500 too - and appreciate that it's probably the second-most-common pump-action 12-gauge in Canada. With both the Remington 870 and Mossberg 500, I've only shot them a couple of times.
I used to work in a sporting goods store selling firearms. Sold a lot of Mossbergs they are a good gun and cheaper than the Remington. The 870 is just happens to be more popular (partly because of Hollywood). I used to tell people buying firearms that there were 6 things to take into concideration when buying a gun.
(1) Caliber -
(2) the look -
(3) the feel -
(4) the cost -
(5) availability of ammo -
(6) the action -
Next time your out window shopping ave a look at bot the 870 and 500. Shoulder them see how they feel and get the one that fits you the best.
And never over look a used gun. I have owned 27 different guns over the 30+ years and only 3 were new. I target shoot with a used pistol I bought 20 years ago.
. And even with a full stock it fits nicely under a trench coat.
how the hell did you find that out? 😆

i like my mossberg 590, i like the safety on top, and i've never had a problem with it.
my mossberg 500 on the other hand i've had feed problems, or i should say loading problems. after the last shot is chambered, the mag spring pushes the ?plate? not sure the name, so far forward it jams it in place. i've been unable at times to load a shot in the normal manner (pushing it in with thumb)
all my friends are 870 people, so i stand alone with them too lol

sounds like you've damaged your 'magazine follower' from what youve described....new one will cost about $2

I bought a Remington 870 when I was with the military, my friend suggested that if I want to get real proficient with it take it to the skeet range. I had some strange looks from people there saying that I couldn’t shoot a pump on the range. I took it up with my friend who happened to be the manager of the range. Any who, cut to the point, after 2 weeks and 20 boxes after, I was getting 17/20 birds. ( clay disc’s). After a while you learn how to pump that shotgun real fast or get laughed at. JT
