For any one who is looking for retreat property. Keep an eye of what the Dignam Corporation in Barrie. They sale vacant land all across Canada. From single lot size property up to 100+ acrers. The cost varies but if you do the payments it works out to approx 10% down and than 50 monthly payments. Depending on what you want or can afford and where you want to be, you might find it.

Last time I talked to them, I was told that they "will work with you" if you want to build (since doing payments you don't have full title)

I still get the ocational monthly property List from them and my subscription ran out years ago.

For some of us it worth looking into

If you find a property you want to buy and want to build on that property make sure to call the municipality first. Dignam's properties are "as is." Do you homework. I found exactly what I wanted but since the property was 5.45 acres it cannot be surveyed. In some municipalities if it can't be surveyed, you can't build on it.

You might want to check the information on mineral rights on the link above. Other than that if you can find a property with running water investigate if you are allowed to divert water to a standing pond for fire insurance// fish pond// if there is enough slope for generating power. eg. an micro hydro power plant can provide enough power for a homestead or a small community. Depending upon the amount of head that you have (slope v.s. distance/ volume).
