I just wondered what you keep in your car for "just in case". I had a conversation the other day with a friend and she mentioned that she keeps a small container in the car in case she gets stuck in traffic and she can't get off the highway to get to a bathroom. It's something I had never considered.

First aid kit, flashlight, blanket, pens and notepad, maps, napkins ... my basic bug-out/get-home bag when I am in car, sometimes when car is parked.

In the next few weeks I will be starting a new job, will need to wear a suit and dress shoes. SO I plan on adding rubber puts, and work clothes (jeans, long-sleeve shirt, gloves) to the car in case I need to get dirty (changing a flat, giving first aid to car accident victims, etc,), or for those times I can't resist pulling over to pick road-side apples, mulberries, etc [I'm not joking].

Oh, and I kind of want to keep a container with extra gas in the car, but, not sure if I want that in the back of hatchback, fuming off into the rest of the car, and adding a fire/explosion risk.

I was keeping a small tote that fit under the back seat of my truck containing the following items:
-wool blanket
-folding shovel
-ice scrapper
-insulated work gloves
-extra socks
-bottles of water
-empty water bottle(trucker toilet)
-multitool
-knife
-2 flashlights
-candle
-mini flare launcher
-waterproof matches plus a couple BIC lighters
and some other random items that I can't think of at the moment.

HOWEVER, 2 weeks ago someone broke into my truck via a slightly open passenger window and stole my work boots, tool kit, survival kit, 2 pairs of Bolle sunglasses and about 20bucks of loose change from my glove box.
THEN, last week someone broke in again via Ripping my drivers side door handle and lock right off the truck. All for NOTHING. Hadn't replaced anything since last breakin.

So now i've decided that i'm just going to bring my BOB with me in truck and take back inside every trip from now on even tho its a hassle. i can't afford replacing everything plus a door handle again.

Cheers

Thanks for the answers. I usually just take my BOB with me. I used to keep some tools in the trunk but they haven't made it back in the car after I did some moving.

I didn't notice anyone having jumper cables, spare hoses or belts, pantyhose, rad fluid, oil, etc. Are those types of things just a given or do you not have them in your car?

Actually, you reminded me of a few things that I do still have in truck:
-jumper cables
-steering fluid
-oil
-small basic wrench and torx driver set
-coolant

I would love to be able to carry an huge assortment of everything but reality is that it gets used, borrowed, and/or stolen so i'm keeping whats in my vehicle to a minimum.. I keep a more advanced automotive repair/salvage kit in a large rubbermaid tote that I keep with other prep/survival items ready to throw in the truck in a hurry.

Cheers

First aid kit, folding shovel, utility knife, all purpose tool, waterproof matches, scrapper, mylar blanket, candles, flare, hand sanitizer, bungie cords, jack, tire...
I also keep a mini emergency case with girly stuff, tylenol, nail polish and nylons (I dress up for work) needle and thread.

Pretty weak by most Preppers' standards but it's a start 🙂
