Fitness training as part of prepping

Just a thought based on some reading I did on some random survivalist forum over the last few months:

What good is a BOB if you can't haul the weight in a hurry...

I'm fortunate to have good health and can keep myself reasonably fit.

Others, well, not so much BUT there is something that can really help in a hurry. BURPEES!!

Remember burpees? I hated my PhysEd teacher for making us do these things but he was a good man for trying to keep us kids fit.

They are a really good "whole body" workout that uses no special equipment. Excellent for the beginner and can be done where space is limited.

Start small with 5-10 in a row and work your way up to as many as you can do without stopping! After you catch your breath, do more 😀

I'm currently doing 100 per day in sets of 10 or 20. Sometimes I take a walk or go on a long bike ride too. Occasionally I lift weights and such. But the burpees seem to kick my butt the most so they stay the bread-n-butter of my fitness routine.

What is everyone else doing to stay fit and strong?

Do you feel fitness and strength training is an important part of prepping?

If you have mobility issues and/or physical limitations, what do you do to try and overcome these limitations?

I started getting back into shape as well a few months back. I run a few k most nights after work at a park outside then do pull ups on the jungle gym. Or I'll run the mountain stairs on my off days from the track. I feel like being in somewhat decent shape is a good idea. After watching a few of southernpreppers more thought provoking videos on what it might be like post... Something. Hauling water/ hard labour will take up the hours of the sun light. Being in shape now might help out a bit? And the number 1 rule of zombieland... Cardio!

I go hiking a few times a week at Woodend Conservation Area, and take the Hardwood trail, which climbs up and down the edge of the escarpment and gives a good leg & cardio workout. Its only about 25 min, and it comes out near the Paul Naray Trail, which is less steep, but longer. It's also got a lot of leaves and brush over the trail, so you can practice silently through the woods. There's owls, squirrels, all sorts of bird and chipmunks, so you can practice stalking game as well (Can't actually hunt, but try and sneak up on a Great Horned Owl, it took me a few tries). I always bring all the gear I have, which right now isn't much, but its like carrying the piglet up the mountain, as he grows fatter, you'll get stronger.

Well I raised an orphan horse once, and the poor little guy didn't have any friends, so we'd run around and play with him. When he was first born we'd pick him up or push him around (lightly) while he was getting used to those pool cues they call legs. He later turned that into sitting in laps, and rubbing against people. That one day turned into jumping on my back XD Good thing I got practice.

You had a horse jump on your back and you're still alive?

I think you're going to do well if TSHTF :mrgreen:


It's better to prep for something that may never happen than not prep for something that does.

I think I need to have someone sick their dog on me, or find a group of zombies...because I can't seem to be arsed to run unless I'm being chased. I've always hated to run, I'm kinda more of the weight training type. I really need to fix that!
