I guess with my earlier comments, I was trying to indicate that all the supplies in the world won't get you through the economic crisis if you lose your job and the bank comes back to take your house.
Those tent cities will filled with people like you and me.
Only the rare few who have NO debt will survive. How many of us have a mortgage? I'd say it's close to 100% of us. Renters will be even more at risk... someone runs that building, and they are probably making payments on it like home owners do with their mortgages..
Ok, so you've got a substantial amount of that mortgage paid off... that only means you'll last longer in your house than your neighbor... but you aren't immune either... you end up using your supplies until they are gone, or the banks come for you later than they did for others.
So what now? You're in the camp with your wife and kids... trying to stay warm and keep what meager possessions you have from getting stolen, or taken. In that camp, the local tuffs come by and want to see what you have for them. They eyeball your wife, and even your kids. Law is completely gone, and it's the biggest monster that survives.
Before this eventually happens, you decide "Screw this", and make a strategic escape with your wife and kids.
How do you do that? Where are you going to go?
This is the type of prepping that'll keep you, and your family alive.
-Training: You need to know how to defend yourself with your hands, and any improvised weapons you make/find. You need to know what you can eat, even in the dead of winter that won't make you sick. You need to know how to hide, how to run.
Run where? Ah, that's the $10,000 question, isn't it? You don't have a house anymore. Some people are still living in theirs.. the elitists who prepared their fortunes years ago to safe currentcy, like gold. Don't bother trying to take what they have, being prepared, they are ready to defend what they have. You have rags on your back, and a sharpened screwdriver for a knife....
-Real Prepping: Before things go down, you trained your brain. Wilderness training, book learning. It's time for school now folks. The only real ahead prepping for materials I would recommend would be geocaches. PVC tubes buried on crown land with basic supplies, equipment. Not all in the same place, as some or most are going to be found. Nothing written down to their location. Memory only, and tell no one.
After substantial consideration I understand that the above scenario is a real fear for some people but I do not find it a credible threat. After 2008 many people in the US lost their homes. They were left to fend for themselves (not that that was any better). They were not herded into camps for good reason. If the government puts populations into camps they become responsible for them having to supply food, water protection etc. They do not want the responsibility. If society breaks down to the point of WROL banks would be the least of your worries!
If everyone with a mortgage were forced out of their homes there would be no tent city. EVERYONE would squat right where they are. Who is going to claim all of those houses when people can just play musical chairs from house to house. Let the bankers come and take it personally and keep the Gulag cops and military people who do their bidding at home. I guess what I am saying is, what are banks without their goons?
Overpaid and powerless. 😈
Yeah, none of the North American nations have a large enough military & police population to ever force their citizens into any sort of camps, regardless of the type of crisis.
Yes, there may be pockets where armed forces could focus on one population centre or another and create such camps, but by and large the individuals would have to be voluntarily entering them under some guise of receiving protection and provisions. A large number of folks would simply strike out on their own, depending on their own smarts and abilities to get them through.
I don't believe we've seen the economical fallout at it's worst yet. We may even kind of recover from this latest warning - but because we've learned nothing from it - it will crop up again in less than a decade... and THAT next big crash will be what does us in. Both Canada's and the US's work forces are shrinking, old age dependents are increasing, national debts are ballooning and we won't have any of it paid off, or surplusses/savings built up before the next crash.
I don't think it's something that will throw us back to the dark ages, but it will definitely force everyone without excessive wealth to live on par with societies such as those in the war-torn Balkans, Czech nations, etc. Clothing and food and medicare and even entertainment gadgets will still be available but extremely expensive and out of reach of 90% of our population.
It's coming... and it's going to hurt!

When people start losing their homes because they are defaulting on their mortgages, the first thing they will do is go on welfare.. there won't be tent citiest to start, rather tent cities will be needed once the problem gets to a certain level.
Again, if EVERYONE were affected at the same time, it would be easier to deal with and prepare for.
Indicators of collapse will be rising unemployment numbers as well as inflation. There will be some who lose their houses but are still employed. That's a workable situation, as then people will require welfare or unemployment insurance.
The government will collapse eventually when there aren't enough people to support the system.
They won't let people squat on thier former houses until near the end.. That's when those tent cities will come into play... and the government will want to keep people in those cities as a means of insulating society. It's been done before in many countries through history.
I used to think that I had an unhealthy obsession with the Global Financial Crisis. Could we really be talking about the collapse of civilization in the next few months? But more and more mainstream news organizations seem to be pondering just that. While the Business Insider isn't a mainstream web site the article and the study it cites doesn't seem to be fringe.
I feel like we have about 6 months before a minor crisis sets off the big one. I don't think prepping your home makes sense if you live in a city. When the collapse begins, it feels like we need to start fresh.
I'm very much a newbie, but I wanted to start contributing in some way. I didn't want to post this in the international forums, because I really want to start getting to know people of similar mind as close to me as possible. Any comments on the article are appreciated, as well as any good sources for news.

first off. . . i've been prepping for over 10 years now, very seriously for the last 6. in the last three years i've been following the news very closely and i keep asking older friends "have you ever seen it this bad before?" and until about a year ago, most of them said "yes, it's been worse/as bad". there is always bad things happening. we may be more tangled then before with world trade, computer systems, just in time delivery etc. but at the same time we live under governments with lots of control (they lie, cheat, steal and get away with it) take a deep breath because you HAVE TIME.
being younger and forgetting most of the history i learned in high school (lol it really was my favorite subject)
if you look at the great depression, think about the impact it had on the common person, job loss, lack of funds and having to be more handy to get any type of work available. farmers on the other hand kept doing what they did. of course the drought that effected that time in the US effected farming as well. (i don't know any good preppers/survivalists that aren't multi talent handyman, and farmers (or at least hobby farmers)) but that's part of this prepping, to be as useful in as many places/area/subjects as possible . . . (or have friends that can do those jobs!!!)
but people made it through, they adapted, they are doing so in Greece now, it's hard, but you're not having the massive die/murders/riots etc. hard times are coming, there will be no more cheap food, or gas.
every prep you make saves money tomorrow.
when bread prices jumped, i was eating bread from the freezer that was 30% less in cost. but i had my wheat packed away if i needed to make it. the price of the wheat i bought last year was nearly double from when i first started buying it.
i've bought bulk food for years, nothing has every gone bad, canned foods keep a very very long time. that tomatoe sauce is ok on it's own, but when i put it on the slow cooker for 12 hours with fresh veggies, i come out with a killer pasta sauce that is healthy. yet the tomatoe base is 2 or 3 years old and a lot cheaper then to buy it today. . . but now i have a garden and i'm pulling my own tomatoes. . .
my job is an unintentional prep job, as a nurse i can do a lot more then many. having doctors as prep friends i've learned skills i usually won't know. but while i can heal a wound, i can't fix my snow blower (but every single male prepper friend i have near by can!) they teach me stuff i teach them.
my path to security is many fold. i buy when needed, i look for great deals, and i save money by only have to buy on sale.
a good example. i eat a lot of cheese, when it's on sale i buy $50-100 of it. i get funny looks, but i saved 30-40% on it. that's a lot of savings, and i don't buy it again until it's on sale. i NEVER pay full price.
other ideas, build savings, decrease debt, if you don't know how buy David Ramsey's book, it's worth the $20. save money as mentioned above, slowly but surely build you security window. (food, water, hygiene, health care, security, back ups to power, learn to grow food, learn new skills,) invest in your future in many ways. none of them will cost you more tomorrow!
keep prepping and praying, things will work out!
and if they don't, you're have food, water, a home with power, excess of many things, you will grow food, trade, and be a pillar of your community. . .while doing the most important things of all. providing for you and your family! the sky is the limit and don't let the world scare you into a hole. prep!
adsum. . . aut viam inveniam aut faciam
I would not worry right now about economic collapse they can be delayed but Israel is not going to delay attacking Iran.In economy there are lot of theoretical factors ,but the war is all real and Israel is ready just make sure we are ready for it. Henry.
This is a link that describes what could be coming down the pipe. VERY scary to say the least.
