I'm trying to track down a good supplier of grains to buy in bulk local to the Barrie area.
We want to grind our own flour etc but I'm having a heck of a time trying to find this.

Been to the Barrie farmers market and didn't get anywhere there, thinking it was likely partially timing (winter). Going to try the oro-medonte farmers market next.

I was thinking about a kijiji ad but not sure how many farmers around here are online these days.

Wondering if anyone here knows of one. I found one online from Ottawa area but that seems a bit of a stretch to go.. but once a year or so wouldn't kill us I guess.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply.

I'll take a look at them. This may be a little gem for a variety of things, looks like they have other baking supplies as well. Called the business number 416-291-3226. (press 3 for retail store). There voice mail is a tad out of date so I ended up calling back and waiting for it to default for assistance. The lady I talked to said they do both. I'm not sure if she understood me but I did hear her say they have over 3000 products available in that store... will be checking that out this week.

I'm still hoping to find a local farmer in the Barrie area where I could get the unrefined wheat/grain berries directly.

I got the new product list from them today, the link above is that list. It is sometimes hard to get through but worth it I think.
Their number is 1-416-291-3226
toll free is 1-800-387-5292

Anita spoke very highly of them, I trust Anita so now I trust them.
Cheers

Visited this place on Friday.

Picked up some wonderful samples sizes to try everything out.

For example;
Organic Spelt Kernels - 700g $3.20
Organic Kamut Kernels - 700g $3.00
Soft Wheat Kernels 750g $1.50
Rye Kernels - 750g $1.50
Organic Hard Wheat Kernels 750g $1.99

So pricing is based on commodity prices.. although I'm not sure how reactive they are.
For example a 10KG bag of Rye Kernels is currently $9.10 or organic rye kernels $12.

Pricing is much better in bulk items. Organic Hard Wheat Kernals 25kg was $32.50 (I think..my scribblings seemed to make sense at the time)

The product list is essentially the same from that posted by Wilderness return above.

I'm still on the lookout for a local farm to supply me but this place is worth the time to check out. I haven't done much homework on pricing yet. At this point it is more for bulk product. The idea of course is to add the supply to our storage stores and reduce our overall annual expenses on like products. They carry loads of products we use weekly for baking and food consumption. The kernels store longer and hold their nutritional value so this works well for us on many levels. However for example a friend of mine pointed out a great value on oats, but whey seemed to be priced higher than retail. Its a balance of convenience and savings. I plan on making a large order once we have done our homework.

I have to figure out what exactly "organic" means in ontario vs non organic. I may start another thread on that.
