Hey all.
I am glad I found this site, I have been reading all over the net lately and so far I am just overwhelmed to the point where I have no idea where to begin to even prep anything. As far as my plan well i think I will start with a months supply of food, nothing major thats in mylar bags just yet, but more so canned goods etc. I have ordered some mylar bags from sorbient systems but its been weeks and nothings shown up yet.
My whole goal is just to feel like if anything ever happened natural disaster or job loss that i would be able to feed my family for at least a little while. I have also learned how to make bread from scratch and little things like that in hopes that i would be more self reliant.
Anyhow glad I found this site with people with similar ideas! I mentioned some of what i was doing to co-workers and long time friends and they think i am nuts.
mason.
Hi Mason...I'm in the same boat as you...online info overload. I did however search "preparedness" and "self-sufficiency" on Amazon.com then cross referenced books I was interested in to Amazon.ca and the local library. The library was difficult to pin down a search on which is why I went back to Amazon, then searched the specific books within the library's system. So now I have about 6 different books coming to me from the library varying on topic from gardening/preserving +storage to "surviving disaster" type books.
We're not in bad shape in my household...I probably have between 3 and 6 months worth of food between freezers and fruit cellar. But I want to do better on what's stored in the fruit cellar.
I have to work on "Bug-out Bags", first aid/medical, pet food supplies and water, making use of my big pressure canner (I've only used it to actually cook huge roasts in like a normal pressure cooker) and better use of my dehydrators.
Also I need to find a really reliable site or book that deals with the mylar bags and the anti-oxygen packets.
I'm the lady you're stuck behind in the grocery store with the over loaded cart filled with cases of tuna, peanut butter, huge bags of rice and the weary looking husband
hi mason, just responded to you on my feed. Glad that you are here and hopefully we can learn from each other.
Hi Mason! I'm new here as well! This appears to be a very "happening and growing" forum. There is alot to be learned and I will warn you from personal experience... Prepping is VERY addictive! 😉

Welcome Mason.
It's more than prepping being addictive. I think it's a natural way for us to live, interrupted by the last 50 years of prosperity and television propaganda.
Hi Mason, Welcome. London is a fine city and they just opened up a MEC store. Novaks has to be the best store in the area though. They're at King & Clarence. Plan to be there for a couple of hours. The bookstore is upstairs. I haven't been there for awhile but I'm sure that since prepping has sort of gone mainstream they will have started to cater to preppers.

Oh November 17, how I fear thee...
lets have a meet just cause we can.
anywhere Hamilton, London, Guelph, last one in Burford was great.
any date and time is good for me. The Burford meet area was great , just saying 🙂
Welcome to all the new folks
I guess my one tip is don't try to do it all at once like I did and blow a circuit. 😳
Now I have smaller goals and a wish list for the auctions and yard sales. 💡

Ruffinit, Novacks closed down a few months ago, not long after MEC opened up. I'm guessing you didn't know that. It's too bad because it was a great store.
