Hi everyone new to the site a prepper friend hooked me up. Looks like alot of resources’ (info) available, my wife & I left the city last July and moved to an 80 acre homestead in the Nolalu area. In the process of cutting and skidding 2 years worth of wood, building a chicken coop and pasture and getting a few hives ready. I also do some blacksmithing (still in training) and make my own charcoal for my forge. I have been accessing alot of the info the elders in the area have to offer. Looking forward to sharing ideas.

Greatings Cloudkicker, and welcome. How far are you into your blacksmithing? I've been itching to get my hands dirty with a forge, but to get some decent equipment is out of my price range. So I'm trying to make due with what I can get my hands on. If I can get a hold of an old heater blower from a vehicle, I'll be able to put together a bellows and then I'll finally get to start pounding out some sparks.

Nolalu? My wife and I were talking about homesteading in that area. There is a feller, B. Nufield, I chatted with a few times. Any chance you know the chap?

Thanks all, I been doing the blacksmithing on and off for 2 years, I started in the backyard of are house in T-Bay. There is alot you can do with minimal equipment, I started with a creatively acquired length of rail, and a few hammers I picked up at yard sales and a . If you live in T-Bay there are alot of places to salvage scrap metal, Mission Island, along the tracks and dutchak scrap metal also old cars have alot of good steel on them. Just picked up 12 plastic milk crates by a dumpster in town going to use them for nesting boxes for the chickens. There is a lot of free stuff out there you just have to know where to look. Off to cut some tree`s for fire wood. Be Well All

Good Morning Friend,

So far board has been a really good source of ideas, especially since it is a little more specific to our region both for useful info about thriving here and a good communication tool (for now :))

Hi Homesteader, I do know him. Quite a nice guy...I'll have to pay Beavercreek Homestead a visit next time I'm out in the area. If you need to know anything about solar, he is quite educated in how to set up the whole system.

Nice! Thanks for the tip NorthernVVolf. I have a cob studio that could use a jolt. If I can get the materials, I may be dropping him a line.

Welcome and hello Cloudkicker! This looks like it's turning into an interesting and informative forum. I also am from the N Ont area. I hope you hang around. I'm sure we all have a lot to learn from each other. 🙂
