I found these Confounding Door Locks at the local hardware store and have installed them on all exterior doors in my home as well as a medicine cabinet. They are simply amazing!!!! Basically they add a second dead bolt like system to the door. They have to be pulled out and over to open and when secured the strength they possess is remarkable. They only work if you are in the home you cant unlock them from outside the house so that is a downfall however, when in place it basically doubles the strength of the door its on. They can be engaged by slapping them in an emergency. Many theifs will break a window and reach over to unlock your door to gain access with these Confounding Door Locks in place they would have a very hard time figuring out how they work to unlock them. I'm recommending them for anyone who lives alone or maybe has small children or older people who wonder. They are designed to keep you inside your home and make it very difficult for anyone else to get inside your home!!!

good, solid looking lock....only as strong as the door though. i have a metal door, with a strip of metal on screwed into the entire length of the door frame...cops couldn't put it in....well, perhaps they could but it would take quiet a while. might take a look at this lock myself. thanks

I do have serious questions regarding these locks.... could someone get inside in a life threatening emergency? For example (God forbid that this situation would arise but...) your wife locks the door using this gadget after you have gone to work, and then she trips and falls. She hits her head as she falls, she is unconscious on the floor, bleeding from a massive head wound....you ring home during the morning and there is no answer, even though you know that she is home with the children all day.....you rush home...are you able to get in? Do they have to be unlocked from the inside? Do they work like deadlocks?

but in all practicality you can put any door in...it'll go sooner or later....and if its that strong fire service have jaws of life. they actually work both ways, so they cut, but they also prise open

...or you could just smash a window, climb through and unlock it so everyone else can get in...

Then why spend money on a lock that makes your door harder to get through, when the windows are a weak point?

One of the cheapest type of window denial is chain link fencing welded to a angle iron frame. This frame would be hinged on the inside of the window so that It could be unbolted from the inside so that you could still get out in case of a fire. Get the heavy gauge though.

the locks are great, i've used them for 6 years now. i have two on my front door, one high one low. . . you're not getting thru it. . .

of course there are other windows and doors to come thru, so i've made arrangements for them too 😉

security is a layers thing, not one lock or set of bars is going to fix everything, my security starts at my gate and goes all the way to my bedside safe. (with many sets and 5 dogs in between 🙂

Before you put those locks on your homes - think very hard. What about fire...Have you guys ever seen how fast a fire can engulf a room due to the "stuff" in it?

when the locks are thrown you are locked in so if your wife is injured you would have to kick in the door to get past this particular lock. They are very strong so this is one downfall to them. However keeping unwanted persons out of your home or denying them entry is my concern. These locks surprised me with their strength so i though i would share!!
