when the locks are thrown you are locked in so if your wife is injured you would have to kick in the door to get past this particular lock. They are very strong so this is one downfall to them. However keeping unwanted persons out of your home or denying them entry is my concern. These locks surprised me with their strength so i though i would share!!

I can understand about keeping "baddies" out, but in my situation (single Mum) I would have no hope of kicking in a door with this type of lock....I'd need to be built like "king Kong" (which I'm not). Fire is what scares me the most, intruders next (and all the other possible scenario's after that). I do think that the locks are a great idea, but I just wanted to get the possible "down side" out there. Thanks for starting the thread....knowledge is power!

I have them on my patio door and on my medical cabinet (baby proof). As long as the door opens inward the lock will work. They are made of a high grade steel and when locked the door will not move!!!! In a fire they are dangerous, they are metal so if the fire is near the door they would get very hot!!!! You would not be able to unlock them if they are to hot to touch. To unlock them you need to pull them over and out they are spring loaded. if you have a home depot near by, they sell then and you can take a look and see what i mean. You need to determine if the pros out weigh the cons. With a dead bolt and one of these on your door no one without a shotgun is getting in. Even a battering ram would have a hard time opening the door. FYI

Remember the golden rule " Locks are to keep honest people honest" and ""the bigger the lock, the better the prize". No matter how secure you think you are the determined intruder will find a way in. Surprize often over comes defence, if a person wants to get into your house, How hard would it be to ram a truck into the side of your house to make an entry way, I has been done. The men who did it, stole a truck, rammed the building, backed out and the others ran into the house and were gone in 5 min. I'm not trying to scare you, but think of it, the more secure you make you home look, the more you must be hiding. If you must have metal shething on your door, have a veneer of wood over it.

ranger is right...nothing is impenitrible. Warrant for the biker bar on Lottridge in Hamilton. didnt even knock, straight through the back wall with a skid steer.

soild door - back my truck into it
window bars - hook a chain to em and pull em off
bollards in front of doors/ windows - back my truck through your wall

etc, etc, etc

what im trying to do is hide the property. someone had a great idea of making their property look derilict. that would work in essence, however looters might still want to take a look around.

My dad used to think like you Ranger...he used to say "don't look like you've got anything of value and you won't get robbed". He was right! 😀 He also that dogs were a good "alarm".

We have 3 dogs, if one starts barking they all do, sounds like a friggin kennel.

only way we know someone is one the property, when the dogs tell us. if their off their chains we have to get outside quick and tell whoever it is not to get out of their vehicle. just got a couple of quotes on cctv systems that beep when they sense movement. that way ill know someone is coming down the driveway or approaching the proeprty from any aspect.

Well Ranger, That means that you'll know if anyone is around ...that's a good thing! 😀

Carbon, you got rotties...nobody is gonna get out of the car if they see huge dogs bouncing towards them unless they are complete idiots!

i complain about them a lot, but i know when im at work no one is coming on the property. the females are aggressive (unusual in females, even rotties) but the male is all about the bite. ill try and get a photo of him going off when someone comes on the property...he's scary. the securtiy/ cctv guy wouldn't get out of his car...nervous, Ruger loved it. went mad. dosen't help the wife coming out and hugging him as hes going mental, "good boy, mummys baby boy. protecting mummy. good boy" so he goes off even more.

That's what you want Carbon......they need to know that they are doing "what the boss wants"....I always reward my dogs when they do their job. BTW I've got a female Rotti/German Shepherd X and she is the most "aggressive sounding" dog I've ever owned - she's really a big teddy bear though!
