For those who are seeking knowledge on how to do things, I would recommend the website Instructables. Tons of things to learn. Some may be familiar but others may be wondering about sources of information to do certain tasks. It may not necessarily be the be all and end all of information on how to do things but it can definitely serve as a starting point.
Be forewarned that I am not aware of any authority that vets information and instructions on how to do things. Be wary of anything that seems dangerous, verify by a separate resource and rely on your gut feeling if something doesn't seem right.
Just as an example, a few years ago a professional, well known, expert and well respected blacksmith killed himself trying to burn cadmium off some nuts and bolts in order to get some cheap steel to forge. A tragedy for sure but underscores the need to be vigilant and safe whenever attempting something unknown for the first time.
