Hey, just thought I'd share a source for good refractory bricks, as many folks here are interested in building their own wood fired stoves, ovens, furnaces, evaporators and water heaters.

Merkley Supply Ltd in Ottawa.
Sells the 4 1/2" x 9" x 1 1/4" fire bricks for just $1.61 each. Compared to TSC Stores & Home Hardware's prices of $3.99 and $3.499 EACH!

Merkley's product also claims to last 5 years longer than anything sold by the box stores. An important factor as it means re-bricking 2 fewer times over 60 yrs.

It's coming... and it's going to hurt!

Merkley also has refractory cement, or at least they a couple of years ago. You mix it yourself so you can shape it
Into any shape you need to.
You can make your own by adding bits of broken ceramic crockery to cement.
