I'm 32 in May... my fiance is 28 in May and surprisingly she's extremely interested in preparedness and our safety in the event something drastic happens. This is surprising because for the first 27 years of her life she and all her friends & family considered her to be a city princess.
Just months after hooking up with me and she was camping, gardening, farming, learning some animal husbandry, gutting deer, practicing natural medicines, stockpiling goods and doing everything she can to build a strong foundation of survival knowledge.
Our wedding gifts to each other is 100 out-of-the-way acres, 3 hours away from any significant population.
It's coming... and it's going to hurt!

That is a match made in prepper heaven!
Nice to hear about stories like this. They make me smile.

Maybe we should start a "Singles", thread. If you can meet a prepper half of your potential battles are already won!
Knowledge is power. Practised knowledge is strength. Tested knowledge is confidence.
Well...I'd be shot! There are (apparently) only 10 preppers in Australia (including me) and I think most of them are married with kids. I'd have to sit here reading about it and crying into my tea!! Just kidding...sob, sob. Seriously I agree with I didn't do it - relationships where you have the same goals in life and the same interests would make things so much easier because you could work together. Well done Oddmott and congratulations.

Hehe... thanks all, but I can't really take any credit. I too thought I was going to be marrying a princess. I was stunned when she picked up and enjoyed all the activities and thought processes on her own with no prodding from me!
She's lost-her-mind-giddy in anticipation of yard/garage/auction sale season arriving and the opportunities to pick up tons of low-tech essentials on the cheap. I'll be honest, her enthusiasm is adorable. I imagine we'll come home with 2 or 3 non-essential items for every truly useful one, but that's a small price to pay, right? lol

One of the reasons I am divorced. He gets it now, didn't understand it when we were married... go figure lol I guess he realized I could live to survive, no luxury needed! (and yes, heat was a luxury for a year, we survived)
A singles thread? LMAO that made me giggle.. it would be like "OK so what do you know how to do because I need someone who knows how to do this or this... no no I can already do that... don't you have any other survival skills?" bahahaha. I could see it being like Peyton Place for Preppers 😆 😆 😆
But we can have fantasy in our lives can't we? I tried marriage once - I didn't like it much! (I'm Ex mil and he didn't think I'd stand up for myself and fight back - SURPRISE!) Happily single for 26 years now. Left everything behind and started fresh and I've got to admit that I never missed any of it.
Interesting thought on the "skills" required to pair up (reminds me of male bower birds who decorate their nests with stolen blue objects to attract a mate and then the males leap about and "strut their stuff" trying to impress the females).
