on the 24th i met up with three other preppers that i met online a number of years ago.
over those years we worked on projects online together, we worked out issues we'd have to deal with (our online prep community is mostly US based) and we've helped each other with group buys, sharing info on first aid/health care, gear, security, firearms, gardens, building, and a lot of other things.
yesterday we met at the most east members place, we shared two meals and a lot of fellowship.
the one member is an electrician, and he ordered and build a security device and played around with it to make it better, and turned it from something that made no sense to me, into a very useful layer of security. (while this is no my project to outline for anyone, when i have built mine i'd be willing to share)
beyond some really great food and conversation, i left with my favorite homemade jam, some other goods and an answer to a hole in my security system.
i have motion sensors to tell me someone has crossed a certain path, but i can put beams all around my property. i have cameras but i need to know where to look. this project will let me know where to look when the problem is coming from off the beaten path.
it can be used for finding out if someone is coming up from behind my house, or if a rabbit or deer is in the garden. lots of uses, and it all runs of alt power!
networking is one of the most important parts of prepping in my opinion, i can't know everything, but i have friends that know everything i don't know 🙂 it can also be one of the most potential dangerous things a prepper can do. sharing info about your preps opens you up to the wrong people knowing and talking about it. personally i like to keep my stuff private, so it bugs me that people i have trusted have shot their mouths off.
my brother is telling me about his gf, she's got two freezers FULL of food, not an empty space in her cupboards, she needs to strap her fridge shut to keep the door from swinging open it's so full. she has spare clothing stocked (two of everything, her son ripped his winter coat, she went and pulled two new ones out and asked which one he wanted) she has every tool anyone could ever want/need. . . she wants a genny because she'd lose too much if the power goes out.
she's has stuff, but lacks the knowledge to make it work for her long term. she's bought without a plan and ends up wasting a lot. my brother is telling me all this saying "do you think she's screwed up?" i laughed "you're dating a survivalist, let me loan you a book to help her plan her needs better"
she apparently doesn't use terms like prepper, or anything, but she KNOWS her kids will NOT EVER go hungry. and hey everyone should have that goal (i was young and my mom ran out of a special food i needed, the city closed (ice storm) and it took a farmer on a snowmobile to get me this food) she preps but lacks security around keeping her mouth shut. . .and she trusted the wrong person.
so be careful who and what you share until you know you can trust them. . . (we Canadians are too trusting up front!!!!)

Sounds like you had a good time. Let us know how the gf takes what you try to teach her. I think it will be interesting to see if she gets defensive or changes.
all i was going to do was "loan" my brother a basic book on prepping, and he can say "my bro loaned me this, would you like to read it too?" leaving me "knowing" anything about what she does out of it.

Sorry I must have read too much into the post 😳
but i hope she's going to learn what i want her to without letting her know my brother is a big mouth!
