Another one of those that I wasn't sure I should open. Nice to see you posting.

Don't suppose you would do a how to YouTube video on how it goes with the oil

Carbon04 - Westernprepper on the Aussie site was asking about using Waste Vegetable oil to run generators (I think) - care to impart some of your wisdom? (gasp, choke, cough!)

oko, some of the older diesel engines (like a 2002 powerstoke will run straight off waste vegatable oil...i mean, you take a sock, filter the oil and pour it straight in the tank. not so good in winter though. i make bio diesel. i mix methanol and lye (sodium hydroxide) then mix that concoction with waste vegatable oil....after 8 hours i get diesel, pure, 100% diesel. if westernprepper has an old diesel engine, it will run straight off vegatable oil.

A good book written by an Ontario author is "Biodiesel Basics and Beyond" available @ http://aztext.com/biodiesel-book.cfm "is a comprehensive guide to the production and use of biodiesel for the home and the farm"

Thanks for that Carbon04 ...you want to pop over to the Aussie site, find his request and "do your thang"? (If I do it I'll probably stuff it up and he's in Australia ....he could come and find me if his generator blows up!)

Thanks PrepHer ...would you like to pop over there too and "do your thang"?

I'm sure Westernprepper would appreciate it!

What is the portions of methanol, lye and veggie oil? (I.E. three parts methanol, one part lye, two parts veggies oil) i'm curious and would like to try this but wouldn't want to waste materials experimenting, let me just say good find!! 🙂

You had better strain it better than with an old sock, or have on hand a whole lot of atomizers at $20-100 each. The filter for a diesel engine is much stricter than with a straight gas engine. Pall Corp writes:

"High Pressure Common Rail System (HPCR)
HPCR system technology offers improved power and fuel efficiency and lower exhaust emissions. To achieve these results, HPCR systems operate at pressures in excess of 2000 bar and have injector nozzle openings in the 2-3 μm diameter range. This requires diesel fuel 30 times cleaner than what
is acceptable for standard EUIs and over 100 times cleaner than what is typically dispensed at the pump. This level of cleanliness cannot be attained with on-board filtration alone; supplementary bulk and point of filling filtration is required."

2-3 μm diameter = diameter of spider web

40 gallons waste oil, 8 gallons methanol and the ammount of lye is dependant on the quality/ water content of the oil
