I like to touch couple of headings.
In USA according to latest every day 22 war wets commit suicide. The reason is PDS. The result of not being mentally prepared for the experience of war. Before going to war they are told they will be fighting (killing) enemies. They are mentally (and chemically) prepped up for killing. After returning home and reality sets in ,they realize they were also killing innocent children and family's just like theirs own at home.PDS.
In case of disaster we are prepping for is the same.First is the shock and you are able to do unthinkable maybe even kill.Than situation calm down , reality sets in and you realize you rejected or maybe killed a person that was desperate to feed his hungry children and that why he was approaching your house. Some peppers think they they are willing to do just that.MENTAL INPREPEREDNES.
Another discussion : which gun is better in disaster. It is like discussion which food taste better. If you are really hungry week old dry bread and glass of milk is delicatessen you never had, because there is nothing else.In case of disaster the best gun is the one you have and able to use to survive.I rather see discussion after you kill the animal (for survival) how to use every little piece so nothing is wasted.Or how to get the kill to your place of stay.( in heat or cold)
One think really gets me when some people suggest to go camping for few days and pretend disaster happened. When you pretend in your mind you know you can just pack up and go home.(REALITY SHOWS)In case of disaster (bug out)your choice is to go forward hoping to survive or go back and face death.Quite a difference. That when mentality preparedness come.
When debating leadership You should hear some "holocaust survivals" telling of theirs experiences,or people that had to walk for days on given just piece of bread and water. who could not continue stayed behind was just shut. people that were still able to share their portion with the weakest or children or help tired parents carry the children were the leaders. That is the mental and physical quality of a leader.
That my thinking.
IT IS BETTER BE READY TEN YEARS TOO EARLY THAN ONE DAY TOO LATE.

You have some good points there Henry.
Far too many people see this prepping thing as some kind of game. They buy some cheap garbage because it looks cool but will break the first time they need a good tool.
Not much to be done about it though, we're too used to the "dollar store" mentality.
both are great points....we forget sometimes that prepping is more than just having the tools to survive, but we also need the mental "know how" as well. To deal with death on a daily basis, wondering where your next meal is coming from? Can I run a farm and grow my food? What will I do till the food grows?....there are so many variables out there and I dont believe that anyone can truly be ready. All your time will be consumed by surviving, not playing with our Ipods, or computers. What about living in a small community?...you will have to have some participation in it! No one post SHTF can sit idly by and watch things happen and expect to survive.
I say learn what you can, suck up as much information about the "old ways" such as farming, hand tools, learn a skill that might be considered "lost" these days. At least up the level of comfort if SHTF does happen and of course good luck to everyone if something does happen.
Good Points Henry

Thanks guys.I was scared that i was the only one taking the preparedness seriously and not as a video game.I had in my life some bad experiences and even after many ,many years thinking of it I start sweating.( seeing dead body's and body parts on blankets is very shocking ,trust me)Mental health is critical
Henry
Some things you never expect to see or experience and then it happens. The mind cannot not really register it as fact until later.
"After returning home and reality sets in ,they realize they were also killing innocent children and family's just like theirs own at home.PDS."
Are you saying our soldiers are doing this on purpose? Or that they feel regret / sorry for the accidental killing.? Im unsure of your meaning? I fully support our troops. Just wondering if you think we are sending our guys and galls for the intended purpose of klilling children?
All other points very valid though, I fully agree its not a video game. You can have all the preps you;'ll need for eternity but if you roll up into the fetal position. Your done.
The Beav.
I remember an interview with a US pilot just after desert storm explaining that he viewed his targets as "pieces of equipment" and blocked out the fact that there were actual people inside these pieces of equipment operating them. I would imagine that this was part of his training as a fighter pilot...you are just destroying a piece of equipment and nothing more. I would suspect that there would be some serious moral dilema issues if they actually thought about the people inside these pieces of equipment. At the same time, you have to realize that the enemy is viewing whatever piece of equipment you are in in the same way!
Beaver in wait YOU COMPLETLY MISSED MY POINT.
Henry
There are people that are looking for argument instead analyzing the question.
My whole point of quotes and discussion is : are you as a prepper mentally ready to defend yourself and your family even with deadly consequences. The war in Afghanistan and Iraqi is proof that even some soldiers can not handle it.
So please do not change the subject that I am trying to blame or offend our soldiers.
Sorry if my English is so poor but I am discussing prepping in 4 different languages in different prep. sites.

Hey Henry
I understand the point you are trying to get out there
I am a retired Canadian service man w/ peacekeeping and Nato service behind me
Now that it is over I sometimes have problems with the actions that where required at the time as opposed to the values that were taught by my family community and church as a younger man.
In the end though there really is nothing I would not have done or would not do today for the safety and freedom of those I love or respect
Sure there was stuff that gives me unsettling emotions at times but these are not things that the average joe needs to know about or deal with
All in all I AM FEELING MUCH BETTER NOW and appreciate you side of the views as well
Thanks MS
We live in a society of wolves ,
We can't fight back by creating more sheep
My post was to simply clarify. Some discussions ( in other forums/ sites , not here) seem to bash all association with any and all government agencies. I fully agree with your point that soldiers come back with alot of baggage. All handle it to different degree's. That said it surely transfers to civilan life. Will people be ready for it?
My apoligies to Henry, i was not looking to cause conflict nor was i looking for a fight, I saw something that was concerning, but not anymore, i had to respond.
