So it's not your average tv survival show but it is entertaining and there are some helpful tips for some of us maybe? If we can get past the nudity....

best anti mugger defence! "hey, give me everything u have!" "ahhhhhhh; well, as you can see i am totally naked" "hummm; yeah, wtf; well carry on, i guess"

How the show was probably made!
dear tv producer; I wanna make a survivalist tv series with strangers doing the wilderness survivalist thing.

well that has been done a lot already; I think people are really getting tired of the concept

what if I got the people to do it NAKED!

you got yourself a tv series sir!

anyways, enough with the jokes lol I will probably watch one or two to see what it has to offer and all. Does look entertaining

Quite enjoyed it as one of the more realistic reality shows , not as scripted as others , but I kept thinking one of my priorities would be making footwear .

Ya, it's been a long time that that area of morality went the way of the dodo bird...sex sells and television has known that for a very long time.
As to the show itself, eh, I could take it or leave it.
One good in it is that they are casting actual survivalists...survival teachers, ex military with survival experience, etc...not a bunch of yuppies thrown out onto an island in front of a camera crew of many.

I saw it advertised.
Couldn't even bring myself to subscribe to Cable again to even consider watching it.
Five channels over an antenna are sufficient for me; get news, weather and basic entertainment only when I decide it's worth watching.

I'll admit that I watched 2 episodes. What amazed me was that in both episodes the women were the ones who basically did everything to keep the pair alive.
In one episode the manly ex-marine got a sunburn and was useless from then on. In the other episode the manly hard core survivalist had a phobia for water and pretty much anything that moved. He was equally useless.
The women worked their butts off and had real skills.
I would watch it again. The nudity element isn't a big deal for me. It's the easiest way to show that they in fact have nothing but the one item they were allowed to bring with them.

I thought the nudity added a positive element to the show, not from the stand point of strangers confronting each other nude or the viewing audience but rather they were exposed to losing body heat, insect and snake bites and elements like the sun, staying wet with the possibility of fungal infections, cuts and abrassions opening skin exposing them to bacterial infections etc . The woman could have made the guy a sombrero if the guy had not been so fussy refusing to wear a hat then he was reduced to whimpering with nasty sunburn . Soldiering forward stepping on horns without fashioning any protection for the feet was an irrational move . Body regulation of core temperature especially with insufficient calories is a lesson in itself .

I cancelled our cable and disconnected the TV at least a year ago so I have no idea what it is on & what is popular, I just know I would have taken their word for it that they only had the one item and it seems to me giving "things" the opportunity to crawl up your whoha while your are running around naked trying to survive is a bit too out there, the chances of having to live that way are very slim and I would respect the people more for showing up in a show clothed and sharing their skills and knowledge, I am surprised people agree to do these things that is all.

Ok. So this thread officially got me hooked on this show. From what I've seen in the first three episodes the guys are a--holes. And these are so-called survivalists? So they each get to bring one item. In one of the episodes the 'survivalist' choose a knife. Perfect and likely what I would have done as well. However, it looked like a Gerber Machete - an absolute garbage choice for a knife in the wild.

Based on the first three episodes the women seem be more resilient and adaptable to the situation(s) compared to the men in my opinion.

I cancelled our cable and disconnected the TV at least 5 years ago but there is this thing called the internet ...
I think the men who would apply to be on the show might be more narcisstic and ego oriented , I think the women came across a genuinely wanting the challenge . Going on the show naked is challenge in itself but working with someone who is really incompatible truly might make it that much harder a challenge . Do you think there was a clause that they had to stick together to make it easier to film or that the women put up with that pairing rather than face a number of weeks on their own?

I couldn't care less about the nudity one way or another. It's just a mass of blurs with a face... hard to be offended by that.

I was offended that they're pawning the cast off as "survivalists". As an earlier poster stated, knowledgeable folks would generally be bringing much smarter/more useful items than this cast tends to.

Also agree with another earlier poster(s) that the women tend to do most of the work and be the most resilient. The guys either make very idiotic mistakes or crumble quickly under any sort of pain or duress. But, in the end, they all essentially suffer and starve for 3 weeks before finally being rescued - just about the antithesis of good survivalist television.

It's coming... and it's going to hurt!

Almost forgot to mention this - since I am hesitant to admit I watch these shows.
But, hey, they're free off the antenna and I needed "wind-down" time after getting back from a weekend of mountain camping.

Last night - Sunday Sep. 29 - on Global TV,
which runs the Fox shows Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, Family Guy and American Dad
... Yeah, you can see where this is headed, right?

Well, I turn on the TV with the clicker,
tune to Global since I know it's well past the Simpsons,
but Bob's Burgers might still be on and I find the show entertaining

... and it was hilarious - for two, three, if not four, reasons.

1. The family goes camping. That should indicate in itself there will be problems.

2. Bob decides to eat an under-cooked small fish he catches.... Ever done this. Not a pretty sight, and the show made the most of it.

3. Bob, the wife and his three kids meet ...
"a couple" living in an RV who have "returned to nature", a couple of self-admitted "woods-be" survivalists.
Oh, this got so hilarious near the end of show.

4. The oldest daughter renounces her membership in a "Brownies/Guides" type group for reasons which I cannot divulge, which just had me laughing ....

and there was more ....
If you can find it as a download or for viewing off the Global / Fox tv website tonight or tomorrow, watch if you want.
You won't be disappointed.
It was hilarious.

I tell ya.
After these last three weekends in the woods myself, I needed a good laugh; and, this was it.

p.s. The last three weekends, though enjoyable, have not been the best I've experienced.

I continue to enjoy this show basically for the raw tenacity of the participants under physical and emotional duress.
I finally figured out what I would take with me as my one item , a huge 300 foot roll of tinfoil so i could fashion a few basics with the use of natural materials such as foot protection and a metal watertight container , even a solar reflector to start a fire in the right circumstance . I would guesstimate whatever the male partner brought such as a knife or firestarter would be other and complimentary in the least . I thought using hair as a material was brilliant , what is with people not taking sometime to fashion some footwear before they sustain injury ?
