Hello all. I just registered here. I am new to this prepping lifestyle but have been unofficially prepping for quite some time. I do not have tones of time to prep, nor am I overly skilled. Just being honest lol. I just feel a growing need to prepare. I don't know what might happen but want to be able to handle things if the economy gets worse and food prices get insane. I live in an urban environment, in Central Ontario. It bothers me that I don't have an alternative fuel source, finding out if a wood stove is allowed is on my to do list. My other concern is that I live close to Toronto and I know that if the SHTF those people are going to come this way. I can't move because I have about 10 more years until early retirement at which time I will re-evaluate where I live. I am considering buying land up in the Haliburton Highlands as a place to retreat to.
I find this site informative. So many people are so knowledgeable. I hope to get some great ideas from you.
Welcome Alittleprep! If you hang out here long enough you'll be ALOTprep 🙂

Greetings "Alittleprep", what you have done is more than 80% of this country should be doing, taking the first step in self dependency in a crisis situation. Just do it when you can, a bit at a time. Figuring out what foods to buy and store is one of the most important, getting involved with a prepper group is the other. Welcome to the group.

welcome Alittleprep! i am new too so i thought i would drop in and say hi! i probably know less then you about prepping, but I'm sure we are both taking the right step by joining an active community willing to share their knowledge and experience as well as being very helpful and friendly! cheers!
Hey, Im new at all this stuff too. I just see all of the bad things going on in the world today and it is only going to get worse. I have my bugout bag ready and im starting my food and water supply for me and the rest of the family. It is hard though because my family all think im nuts for buying food, water, medical supplys and so on. Does anyone else have this problem?
I have sorta the same problem, My mother thinks prepping is an ok idea (but doesn't really do much towards it) and my father thinks that im crazy and that i shouldn't be wasting my time, money and resources, and instead should be putting it towards better things, but whats better then knowing your prepared if something horrible happens? its good to have that feeling of security for the future, and besides if SHTF your family wont think you are so crazy when you have those PRICELESS assets at your disposal, Just keep up the good work and dont let others views on your prepping effect your decision to keep on prepping. Even something small like a power out ect. could make them start to think that being prepared isnt that bad or crazy of a thing after all. I'm hoping that thats how it goes with my family myself. Your only crazy until proven right, remember that there was a time that people would think you could fall of the face of the earth because it was flat, and if you told them it was round they would think you were delusional and crazy! prepping is like a gun tis better to have one and not need it, then to need it and not have one! Like i said before keep up the good work! my hat goes off to you sir or madam! 😉
welcome cmackprepper! My family is finally on board - but they weren't at first! Now they HELP me 🙂 Hang in there!
Too bad we don't have a way to identify male or female - I am sometimes twisting my words to not say he or she because I don't know! I am a she 🙂

People don't think you're crazy if you have fire insurance on your house, even though statistics show that there is one chance in 1200 of your home catching fire. People don't think you're crazy if you have collision insurance on your vehicle, even though statistics show that there is one chance in 250 that you will ever be in an auto accident. People think you're crazy if you have insurance (preparations) for disaster, even though all of the experts (who don't have a specific agenda) agree that there is a 100% chance of something happening in our future. Whether it's economic, nuclear, pandemic or major natural disaster, we're being warned to be prepared. It's happened before and it'll happen again. I have aquaintances who've said they don't want to hear about it and that I would be nuts to waste my time and money getting prepared for something that'll never happen. I've never told any of these people that I've been prepping for years. One promise I will make, is that those who insist that we're nutcases for preparing, need not come to me when it hits the fan because I won't be wasting my resources on them. After all, who would want help from a nutcase.
There I go ranting again when all I should be saying is, welcome to the forums.
Those who are unwilling to defend freedom, will become unfree.
Thanks all, my few friends who know either think I am nuts or agree...I'm LDS so prepping is a huge part of our lifestyle, but all we do is food storage. If you ever want to get food storage done cheaply there is a "Bishop's Warehouse" near Toronto, open to the public with no religious obligation. Food is so reasonably priced and you can do the canning right there. All you need to do is make an appointment. My local chapel has a canner and the Mylar bag sealer. We save our money and twice a year we buy in bulk and have a canning day. Not many participate but those that do are the kind you want to share info with. Great being here, I read through this site almost daily. Hello to all.
