Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm not new to prepping it turns out, but I am new to the terminology. I've only been prepping for three years but have gained a massive knowledge base and library (mostly in PDF format) and have set myself in quiet a nice/ safe location. loving the idea of this website and hoping I can further my knowledge base and perhaps help out others.

Paul.

Thanks for the warm welcome,

Just a little bit about myself and where I'm at. I saw the writing on the wall in 1999 when I worked as a cop in the center of London, England. Over a three year period I watched the system fall around me seeing the finacial collapse coming a mile away...(2008 was just the prelude...the real finacial collapse is coming over the next two years) 2000 really open my eyes with the fuel protest. i was 'essential services' so i just went straight to the head of the line for gas and i would imagine thats the case in a fuel shortage in Canada.

I went to look for property and could afford nothing, couldn't even come close to a parcel of land where I could sustain myself and my wife and any kids we might have. So 2005 and a move to Canada. Even here I struggled to find the perfect lot until 2009. 42 acre farm with two houses and numerous outbuildings.

Since we purchased Ive demolished one of the houses and rebuilt an ICF house. It can be heated with next to nothing and will withstand an F4 tornado. (Ive yet to test that!)

I put in an 9 acre lake, just finished before the first frost, already full of water. (wet winter down here in Hamilton) I have 200 adult Bass ready to go in in the spring. The fat heads are already in there multiplying. That's my protein source should the SHTF. In four years time Ill be able to take a large bass a day with depleting stocks. I also have two indoor tanks where Ill keep a breeding stock to keep replenishing bass supplies. (they eat their own babies!!!)

Ive can produce my own biodiesel on the farm, just struggling to source out waste vegatable oil. Big companies are buying it up even from the smallest stores.

Have one of the outbuildings preped for the 500 plant hydroponics system Ive just purchased. It's going in over the next couple of months. Might try aquaponics....then if my fertilizer sources dries up I still have a veg source from the aquaponics.

I have guns and am a qualified gunsmith. A very tradable skill if the SHTF. I have firearms...won't go into it too much but know how to use them and have fired in anger in the past.

I'm currently sourcing out solar panels from China. Too expensive here and the local municipality won't allow wind turbines. Once solar is installed I'll be off grid completly. I might hook up for a turbine and buy one so if SHTF I just install it....

I have two wells, both drawing water from different underground sources, so if one is comtaminated I can move to the backup.

Five bee hives are going up in April.....that should give me 450lb a year to use/ trade with.

I had chickens but I breed Rottweilers (german stock imported...excellent guard dogs....no one can come down on the property, even people introduced to the dogs)...the Rottweilers got rid of the chickens ....30 in one sitting. When i build a better fence I'll get more chickens. The wife wants cows and goats etc, but I think a hydro source takes priority....and i have a protein source set up in the lake.

20 cords of wood always avail....it takes half of the usual amount of wood to heat.

Ive got the usual stock of tin goods....enough for a month.

Thats about it so far. Much more to do, but I'm getting there. I still need a diesel generator (big industrial one to recharge solar batteries on cloudy weeks) and am looking for a Hummer H1.....can anyone think of anything |'m missing.

No doubt you've seen the solar powered road signs that are becoming popular with many municipalities. For the most part, those signs are leased from private companies. As part of the regular maintenance, the leasing company will often change out the solar panels. Those used solar panels usually have years of life left in them (the average panel is rated for about 25 years). Sometimes,if you go to the company that owns the signs, they'll sell the used solar panels dirt cheap.
There are also companies that sell vertical wind turbines. Some vertical wind turbines look just like the whirlybird vents that go on your roof. I'll bet your municipality has no rules about whirlybird vents.

Your set up sounds pretty sweet, keep it up carbon04.

Ive seen the vents. I wonder how well they work? I'll source and call those companies on Monday. All those signs with solar panels have the company tel number on them. Didn't even think.

Cheers mate, Paul.
