I've been reading some articles and reports on high-yield EMP weapons. You don't need a lot of KT (may a 10 kilo-ton gamma ray weapon - 50 kg in weight) to deploy this sort of attack and last year North Korea launched thier "satallight" that orbited 500 km above our heads; perfect hight to launch an EMP attack. So with the recient threats and a seemingly viable program to deliver the weapons, I've been wondering if the USA or more specifically Japan, should be expecting a "lights out" scenario. Any thoughts??

Personally I do not consider NK a threat. If there were a nuke on that satellite it would have been shot down. I would think that the CIA would not have a hard time getting a high level insider in NK. Money talks in a country that is a political and financial sh_thole. Just another WMD story. Korea wont do anything since if it does there would be a world of hurt coming its way.If NK sets off a nuke in another country you can be sure that NK would be glowing tomorrow. China and Russia are military powers that can invade after setting off a barrage of missiles. Iran and NK are not. If they get the bomb it is simply a defensive measure so that other countries stop f____'n with them. IMO.

I'm a little undecided on this one...
on one hand, NK probably just wants to be a nuclear power for defensive reasons...don't nuke me cause I have big toys too.
on the other hand, they just might be (insert derogatory comment here) to use it.
Hmmm...worth watching.
OH YA...why use a missile when a cargo container will suffice?

Agreed Denob. A dirty bomb is the way to go and claim your not responsible. A side angle would be that Jihadists may take the blame to gain political support among its members since it would give the illusion that it has the upper hand and capabilities.

I'm concerned about the seemingly endless threats out of NK. The son is scarier then his father and still trying to impress the world. I believe they have the means (MRBM) and the nukes and to carry out something like an EMP strike. They just need to launch a vehicle and let the world rotate underneath it. I have seen a number of articles about the US not being able to protect against warheads dropping straight down from space.

I have comms and important gear perminately stored in farady cages.. Just in case.

commercial air lines would provide a way to get into the country and/or close enough and wouldnt necessarilly be detected.

also, NK did send a satilite into space, however, that was their second try. The first one "blew up" (star wars project?) a little food for thought.

i too have faraday cage loaded. just in case.

home made.

a metal garbage with some sort of insulation, i used spray foam. cardborad works too, as long as your electronics dont touch the metal.

I'm just saying; read what is required to effectivly deploy an EMP weapon then add in what NK has been doing recently. Food for thought. Scary stuff. 12 March is when the treaty "expires". Just sayin is all. (read articles linked below).

Cheers.

5 to 7 minutes launched from the gulf of Mexico and it's all over according to William Forstchen.

I did an extensive write-up on safe locations in the event of an EMP for a presentation last year. Here's a map I created in it's regard:

Quite scary to know that China and Russia have openly admitted to the public that they're working on technology specifically for EMP attacks.

If you want to know what the map means then PM me.
