Hi,

I'm new to this forum, so please forgive me if this topic would step on anyone's toes... 😳

While I don't intend - by no means! - to exclude anyone from the discussion by geographical criteria, I would like to get in touch with people here living in the northern GTA suburbs.
I'll try to explain my point...
Based on what I see (I might as well be mistaken, though), a significant portion of the Ontarian participants live in rural areas or smaller communities.
For many obvious reasons, these are more suitable for prepping...

Yet, yours truly happens to be a Richmond Hill resident, and I think living in the suburbs of a megapolis brings certain specific challenges.
Hence, while everyone else is invited to share their thoughts, I'd be interested in some shared brainstorming and planning with other city (or suburban) mice 😉

Being a "spontaneous" prepper for quite some time now, I've given a lot of thought to the idea of forming a community of like-minded people (much like the other discussion here, "A Sense of Community") - but this doesn't seem to be realistic at the moment. An alternative approach would be forming a "virtual community" - a group of people / families that live in a relative proximity, share and coordinate their plans, and in the doomsday scenario will actually get together to form a physical community "out there".

Some of the subjects I'd like to discuss are (but not limited to):
- Specifics of prepping in a big city / big city's suburb (dense population, small lots, "cardboard" houses, mob danger, etc.).
- Specifics of prepping in an urban area (lack of adjacent / owned agricultural land).
- Potential evacuation vectors and routes (while avoiding highway congestion).
- Good family meeting points (for cases when SHTF during the business hours).
- Creation of a "virtual community" of local preppers (that may get together and/or bug out as a group in case of SHTF).
- Acquisition of useful skills that are not a part of the daily survival routine in the city 😉

Well, I hope you get the point.

Should this be limited to the northern suburbs only? Not at all, as long there is enough common interest, and the ability to actually reach some designated staging area when needed.

Please weigh in with your comments!

Why don't you join us at the June 2nd meet. I believe there are going to be a few people from the GTA coming.

Welcome to the forum!
This forum is the best 'virtual' Prepping community you will find. Some preppers have met up and formed 'alliances'/friendships with others in their area. Read all of the posts and you'll be able to get a better sense of the thoughts and motivations of people in your area and beyond. And don't forget to check out the Canadian Preppers Network and the Board Index.
