According to the News today Students in the Toronto School District cannot use the word "Halloween" when refering to Oct 31st. They now have to use "Black and Orange Day" 😕
I don't care what they say... when Oct 31 rolls around It Is Halloween!!! and I will do my best to scare the daylights out of the neighbourhood kids, and Adults too , if I get a chance.

I believe that you can take "political correctness" way too far. This is a prime example. Those misguided individuals who make these arbitrary decisions based on their screwed view that the word or phrase may offend someone are going to destroy their own culture bit by tiny bit. That is assuming that they are from, what shall I say, the predominant culture. If they are not then this is an assault on the predominant culture of the Nation and the culprits should be brought to task!

I agree...and to think these people that are making decisions like this are supposed to be "educated". 🙄 In all of the travelling we have done my Wife and I have been told that "you have to respect the culture and traditions of the Country you are in"... Where is the respect for this Countrys culture and traditions.. you know, the ones People have Fought and Died for 😡 ??

Exaclty Gravlore... it has turned into an evening of fun for the Kids...It has nothing to do with the Christian Faith ( that I know of ❓ ) and does not have the same meaning as "All Hallows Eve" ...as it used to be called. Any bet these people are still playing records backwards to hear the "secret message" ?
I wonder what they would do if we had "Bon Fire Night" like they do in Yorkshire, U.K. ... I hear that can be a really scarry night, 😯 My guess... they would try to ban Fire

They do this at my son's school too. But I believe it's a school by school decision in the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. My understanding (cause I asked, because i totally agree with the political correctness getting totally out of hand) is that in the elementary schools they do this so the younger kids, now that they have jk and sk in Ontario wont' be freaked out as older kids no longer wear scary masks, etc. They are trying to accommodate the 4 and 5 year olds who are now in the system. The Grade 8's are kinda being held back from wearing the scary masks, etc. So everyone wears Orange and black that day. Of course, when you go there all the teachers and staff always say happy haloween, etc. Its more for the really young is what I got out of it.

If you go to the high schools...wow...the costumes are absolutely amazing some of them. Gorey, scary, and I don't know for sure, but I don't think they do the whole orange and black thing at the high schools. I may be wrong, havn't been in one in a couple of years, but I think its strictly for the elementary schools, and again, decided on by the parents assoc., with the school principal/reps.

"Not scaring the younger ones" ... Yeh that makes sense.. The News , or should I say "the Announcer", was making it out to be anther attack on our Culture and Traditions which has happened far to often IMO. Oh Well, I'm still going to work on my Costume this weekend and get ready for some fun at the end of the month 😈

Of course the TDSB is a peculiar and unique board unto itself...it have a very left of centre leaning leadership, and have made some absolutely weird decisions in the past....

OMG... That is why I am thankful my Daughter has been out of the School System for a few years now.
These people are what my Dad refered to as "educated beyond their intelligence". 😆

I'm starting to think that some school board officials are in desperate need of a good ol' fashioned bitch slap or kick in the nuts. I've heard of things before, but I never clued in really, till I showed up to drop my kid off at school this morning and the school doors are locked and you have to be buzzed in. No prior notice, no discussion.

I asked, tongue in cheek, if they were worried about somebody stealing the chairs. Apparently I don't care about student safety. But if I wanted to drop my kid off at a prison camp I would have enrolled her in one.

Seems to me, they are really teaching kids to just be scared of everything.

They had not used to be. This is downright rediculous. It's about time parents started to speak up.

Could this be the way our School Boards, Teachers and Support Staff is getting back at the Government. A "Lets piss the parents off so they complain to the Government" senerio?? Nah!! I don't think they are that smart 😆
Having to "buzz" into a School...Unbelievable 🙄
