A bug out prep for my dogs was missing so I ordered saddle bags for each one. Healthy dogs can comfortably carry 25% of their weight in dry dog food. Before I ordered them I weighed each of my dogs and calculated the amount of food they could carry. Then I weighed out the food and watched how long it took them to eat it. My dogs can carry enough food for three weeks, 2 full serving meals a day. One month plus if I ration the portions. Definitely worth the money on the bags. This will be handy if a bug out situation arises especially on foot. No way I'm walking to my retreat with all my gear and a big bag of dog food on my shoulder thats for sure. In a long term situation my dogs would be fed hunted meat, fish and easy to grow root vegetables.

I also picked up an extra tick collar for each of the dogs and put them away. I only use Preventic by Virbac. Nothing else really works trust me I tried every chemical and natural prevention out there. They don't smell like toxic chemicals like other brands but they do work for 3 months easy even if the dog swims regularly. The downside is they can be expensive from a vet ($23-$25 each) but I found them online for $12 each.

Got any pet preps?

my dogs eat 34kg of food in two weeks. . . my saddle bags aren't big enough to carry that much. 😛

i'm glad i don't plan to bug out. . .

thanks for the post, i've been reworking my BOB/BOV and i have to find some middle ground for dog food in this regard.

My Dog is big, so..
she gets her own pack similar to the one pictured, but with a removable padding pack area that stays on and the saddle bags remove
she has her own, doggy blanket / coat
ordered a pulling/carting harness for her, need to pick it up tomorrow.

Will post picks.
the carting harness is for extreme bug outs, the cart will then be able to handle a few bags of dog food as she goes through a large bag in just over a month. Will also be able to put a few other things on there. She does not like the pack, but I put a small one on me first, then put hers on, she is better with the whole concept.

practice with her pack will get her use to it and less of a issue when it's on.
you can teach old dogs new tricks 🙂

I am the old Dog,
she is the new Dog, she is only a bit over 2 yrs old 🙂

right now my problems stem from the fact I have been sick for about 9 weeks and she feels neglected.
