This is going to be a bit pic heavy...
I started EDCing a few years ago without even knowing it. I was introduced to the term when I was looking for some flashlight reviews and I guess that eventually lead me into prepping. I use kind of a tiered system much like 'TheUrbanPrepper' on youtube.
Here we go!
Here's my basic EDC that's with me every day when I leave the house
Starting at the top left we have a victorinox pouch that holds my Fenix Prion, Letherman Squirt PS4 and that little knife that functions similar to a Boker Fred Perrin Quattro. The Prion light is pretty good. I used to have the clicky cap on it, but it was unreliable. now that I have the regular base cap I haven't had any problems.
Next is my wallet that carries a Tool Logic Ice Companion and a no-name buch-o-tools in-one credit card tool. the Tool logic has a small knife tweezers, a tooth pick, bottle opener, magnifying lens and a button compass... I hardly ever pull this thing out.
The knife is a Benchmade Mini-Griptillian that's been getting a lot of pocket love over the past few weeks since I bought it. It rotates in and out of my EDC. I'll go into the other knives that get some pocket time below. whichever knife I’m carrying is carried as a tool and it turns out to be one of the most useful thing I carry on a day-to-day basis
The phone is a Galaxy Nexus. Love this thing. having GPS, Google maps, weather alerts, a search engine and a browser in my pocket is awesome. The watch is a Timex Expedition with indiglo. We'll skip the keys for a sec and go to the Zippo, a pair of first aid gloves and my trusty collapsible pen.
The keys have some tools attached with some Nite Ize S-Biners.
If you've been on the Myles Star site or the CountyComm site you'll recognize some of these. The key screwdrivers from myles star are so handy. The pry bar is a Pico-Widgy bar from myles star as well. The bottle opener is actually just an antique can opener I found for a buck and the knife is a Boker KeyCom. The KeyCom has been a bit problematic as I have to keep tightening the pivot screw, I've had the damn thing open in my pocket several times now, luckily I haven't cut myself. My experience with the S—Biners has been mixed. I’ve found the larger ones can come un-attached in my pocket from time to time or as I’m pulling my keys out. I’ve nearly lost a few items this way. On the flip side, I haven’t had any issues with the smaller ‘0’ size biners other than the small size itself.
When I go to work I add a couple Items. I have two jobs and each has a couple items specific to them in my work EDC. For both of these I carry the deep in my pocket rather than clipped to the pocket. As a rule of thumb, I don’t flash knives around vulnerable people and I’ll only bring it out as subtlety as possible when there’s a cutting task.
My first job is at a Shelter. For that I carry large set of work keys, hand sanitizer, a CPR barrier mask and some extra first aid gloves. I don’t do a ton of first aid there, but there’s enough that it makes having extra gloves on my person handy. I also break them out for some of the more mundane tasks like changing bedding and unfortunate situations when I have to clean my way into a washroom (never drink blue listerine!). Funny thing about the barrier mask, on the couple situations when it was looking like I might have to actually do mouth-to-mouth, I totally forgot it was in my pocket… Lucky it didn’t come to that.
My other job is in the same field but is mobile, doing home deliveries for a local agency.
Here I swap out the big set of keys for a pad of paper to write down addresses as delivery calls come in.
I mentioned more knives. I haven’t forgotten. These all get rotated through my EDC, some get more days in my pocket than others, but I like them all.
At the top is my Kershaw composite Leek. This one hasn’t been getting carried as much lately since I switched it to a tip up carry. With the pocket clip where it is when it’s tip up, I just don’t like how high it rides in my pocket. Once I get around to switching it back around I’ll probably carry it more regularly. I really love the flipper on the base of the blade, I really prefer it to thumb studs right now.
Next is the Benchmade Mini-Griptillian. I just got this a few weeks ago from S&R knives along with the SOG Blink. I love this knife. There may be some full size Griptillians and some more Mini-Grips in my future!
Below the Mini-Grip is a SOG Twitch. Another knife with a flipper at the base of the blade. This was probably getting the most pocket time before the Benchmade arrived.
Then we have the SOG Blink. The Twitch’s little brother. I’m liking this one more and more as I carry it and use it.
Below that is a Boker SubCom titanium. It’s a pretty good little knife. Nice and small utility blade.
And at the bottom is a Cold Steel Mini Tuff-lite. Another great little utility blade.
Off to the left is a Kershaw Chive and a little no-name lock back I picked up just because I liked how it looked. The Chive is a great little knife too.
Very nice. I thought I'd give you a little info on the man behind the name on your "antique" bottle opener in the top pic. Sam Manson was a very well known Hamilton Ontario Sporting goods store owner and sportsman who also had a hand in the early beginnings of the OMHA. I remember going with my parents to get my first football there when I was a young sprout. Thanks for rekindling the memories.

Thanks JAB!
hmm. pics are too big. is there a way to resize them? I tried resizing them on photo bucket, but no luck.
When I go to work I'll usually bring my backpack with me and I'll either have it with me behind the desk, out in my car or with me in my work vehicle. The dog stays home.
It's a Three-day type pack branded "Bug-Out Gear". I think I read somewhere that this was put out by Sandpiper of California before they were SOC... But that might be wrong. Anyway, my day brought it back from a US Calvary store when he was training at Fort Knox with his regiment. The bag itself has 5 compartments; two large main compartments and 3 smaller accessory compartments. PALS webbing on the front panel. So far it's been a pretty good bag, the only issue I've had was the rubberized coating on the inside flaking off.
The first main compartment holds some extra socks (one pair cotton and one pair wool), a first aid kit which I dip into quite often when I find our kit in the shelter is depleted or for some reason only contains bandaids and guaze pads with no way to attach them... The Nalgine bottle lives in my pack too and gets used pretty much daily. I make a point of filling it before I head to wherever I'm going and before I head home. The mug doesn't actually live in the pack, it just travels with me filled with delicious coffee often enough that it's pretty much part of the EDC. When it's empty I'll clip it to the caribiners on the side of the pack (when I'm not busy forgetting my mug at work or on my counter at home 😥 )
The other main compartment has a bunch of handy organizer pouches which house a tooth brush and tooth paste, some 'emergency' food (mre snack bread, which i love. some MRE PB, MRE hot cider mix, some salt and pepper, cliff bar, a hot chocolate packet and some starbucks 'via' instant coffee packs). Usually I have another Cliff bar or two, but the fell victim to the emergency of me being both hungry and feeling lazy at some point. Next is some meds; ASA, advil cold and sinus, a max strength acid reducer, a gas-x tab, some pepto tabs. Apparently I'm carrying 2 sticks of deodorant... and some hand warmers.
The first of the smaller compartments is sort of an 'admin' pouch. it has first aid gloves, more first aid gloves in an old cell phone case turned glove case, yet another tooth brush(?), tide to go, a folding knife (a gerber paraframe I think), a small pocket sharpener, a Ronson butane lighter, fiddy cents or a pay phone, shades from MEC, more hot chocolate, gum, an assortment of pens, pencils, etc. (not too sure where my sharpie went, I may have inadvertently donated it to my work) a Fenix L2D (awesome light, max 180 lumens I think, just too big for my pocket.), then there's a little button compass of questionable quality and a mystery led disposable light that I found someplace.
The second smaller pouch is my tool pouch. It has a paramedic holster with some medic shears, a pair of small needle nose pliers (attached by the belt loop snap on the back), another sharpie (it's there, trust me), a pen, a hemostat (behind the shears) a tourniquet and a disposable penlight (which I just replaced with another which isn't pictured. I actually want to get a Streamlight stylus for this rig instead), next is an EOD Breacher bar from Myles Star with a Paracord handle wrap and a Pocket Widgy (also from MS) slipped into the cord. Then there's a SOG Power Assist multi tool which I'm liking a lot. I was carrying a Leatherman Surge up until a couple months ago, but I just got the SOG tool and wanted to try it out for a while. I may add a fixed blade to this pouch soon, maybe a KA-BAR USMC Utility, NAVY Mk. 1 or a Becker, or maybe an ESEE Izula. I may also go with a cheaper multi tool in the future... working at a homeless shelter, there's a pretty good chance this bag could get swiped. I'd be pretty choked to lose my power assist/surge and my Fenix light at once.
Finally, in the front pouch I have a moleskin planner, a small pad of paper and... more first aid gloves!
Hey Mike
Lots of good stuff there real practical but
Good Gracious you got more knives than a store (SAVE SOME WEIGHT AND THIN THEM OUT)
I myself spent 14 years in the military and my EDC is a single bladed pocket knife
My BOB has one Gerber multi tool, One Canadian Forces jump knife (fixed blade) and an 18 " Kukri
A good quality diamond hone and steel rounds it out for care
I had to sit and look at the multiple uses each piece of my BOB would do and this allowed me to winnow out the not so usefull
I have two BOB one for 24-48 hours and then add contents of second bag good for 1 week
Thats how I handle my EDC and BOB
We live in a society of wolves ,
We can't fight back by creating more sheep
The two little back up blades aren't really a weight issue in my pocket. Weight isn't really an issue for the bag either since its just going to and from my car. The other knives just rotate in and out of my EDC so I only have one of them at a time.
Come on folks! Someone else must have an Edc and a camera!
Wow I must be new or something. I don't know what half those things are or those words you used to describe them. I don't think I know what a EDC is. I'm assuming we're talking about your 'weirdobackpack' or at least that's what my Sister in law calls it. If that's the case, here's what I have:
-emergency space blanket
-tea lights+lighter+matches
-bottle of water+candies
-emergency kit (consisting of: gloves, bandaids, alcohol swabs, acetaminophen, tube of antibiotic ointment (polysporin), gauze and tape)
-multitool, knife, bandana
-dog attack deterrant spray (you know what I mean)
-floss, lip balm, antibacterial hand sanitizer, flashlight
-emergency sewing kit
-fire making tool (magnesium, I think it is?)
-paper and crayons for the kids
Forgive my lack of pictures, my camera is doing crazy things so I thought I'd leave it out of this.
If your home library contains more volumes about survival-related topics than your local public library, you might be a prepper.
EDC is short for Every Day Carry. Just items and tools you have with you or near you on a day to day basis that come in handy or can get you out of a jam
Thanks!! I love the suggestions above. I think this might just motivate me to double check my stuff and make sure I'm covered.
If your home library contains more volumes about survival-related topics than your local public library, you might be a prepper.
i carry a few things, widgets (small pry bars so you don't need to use your knife) blast match, spyderco native, dog repellent (it's actually a job thing) pocket pal knife sharpener, pen, Gerber flick multi tool, tweezers, whistle, little reflecting tool (not a mirror but make for signaling) hand sanitizer wipes, kubaton for my keys chain.
this is just kept on my belt or pockets no jacket, no shoulder bag or back pack. . .
adsum. . . aut viam inveniam aut faciam
I gotta work on it. After seeing u guys i feel like an idiot!
