no we tried it with mylar, foodsver bags, as well as vacmaster and it comes with 20 of thier own van seal bags. going to try it with a large ziploc tomorrow. there is a little lever that you slide down that slides in any bag and vaccums it sort of like a straw, then you just press the sealing bar on each end and your done
I have a food save machine. I find if I use a regular drinking straw extending from the top of the bag to the level of the food being sealed, during the vaccume stage.
I can use any kind of sealer bag or even milar bag with no problem. I then remove the left over straw and seal a second time as usual.

Since we're on the topic of storage, I still have a large quantity of the 19 litre, 5 US gallon plastic Ropak buckets and some smaller sizes as well.
They are free to pick up in Ottawa.
Mylar bags can be purchased to fit them. With mylar and an oxygen absorber placed inside, and a stable temperature environment, bulk dry food can be safely stored for years.

You would think Foodsaver would have thought about placing a nozzle in their machines so people like us could easily seal mylar...
That looks a heck of a lot easier the using a coleman pump to suck out all the air while simultaneously sealing the bag with a clothed iron.
Nice product.

Use a regular iron on Mylar bags and a regular vaccum with a hose duct taped on the end. Works great.
