In the current issue of The Backwoodsman there is a plan for a do it yourself water filter on page 31. Looks to be inexpensive.
This magazine I find chock full of useful information in every issue. They stress a do it yourself and do it inexpensively approach to things.
I get mine at Wal-Mart, American frontiersman is another good one
I pick mine up at Loblaws. They slso have a great website.
You should repost this under the water filtration section;

In case others are unaware of the article...
A friend of mine from Quebec sells atmospheric condensers for the home...I'm trying to get hold of him to get his company flyer and info, but he's out of range at home, only comes in range on his cell when he's traveling to sell. Once I get the info I'll post here and in the forum Dangphool linked. In the meantime though I did find this http://wateradvocate.org/condensers.htm
guys i dont recomend you to get water filtration , what you need it water purification wich remove virus also
atmospheric condensers ? Just what do you think a dehumidifier is? Works great as long as you have grid power.
Berkey filters will take out the smallest of bacteria and viruses. A pair of filters can be had for $100 if you want to make the filter reservoirs for yourself. It will filter thousands of gallons into drinking water.
The Lifesaver filtration is good for 99.999% of virus' as well. The microtubules are not much larger than water molecules, or close enough for all intents and purposes. I will be doing more vigorous testing this summer but we did use it in the still pools of a fast moving river with no ill-effects. Next time will be standing water in something other than a river
